The Psych Fi’s Announce Can Con

A new signing announcement for Bobo Integral is always a huge deal on my end of things, and I’m really drawn into this first peek at The Psych Fi’s. They offer up a slow burn on the front half of this single, sort of something that you’d find on any psychedelic ballad collection; it’s drawn out and lonesome, but it doesn’t stay there for long. Eventually, it unfolds into more of a traditional psychedelic meandering, though as the guitars take on some of that fire, the tune still feels fairly drawn out; meant to meditate on the craft, then break out into a stomp as they adopt a bit of a Southern rock boogie. They’ll release their new album, Can Con, on December 4th!

Pop Filter Share Exactly Where I Want to Be

We’ve had a few energetic pop rock tunes from Pop Filter and their new LP, but today, you get a bit more of that slow burn that feels perfect as we stretch into the late Summer vibes. There are so many excellent moments on this singular track, you’ll be circling back to find your favorite little momentary nugget to store in your brain. Deep vocal tones? Sure. Bits of sweeping strings, carefully placed? No doubt. Meandering solo? Indeed. Joyous gang vocals? You bet. Put it all together and you’ve got this melancholic march that celebrates the group’s emotional consistency and celebrated unity as a band. This track is on Ray and Lorraine’s, the new LP out on October 4th via Bobo Integral.

 

Two Great Aussie LPs to Stream: The Brights + Pop Filter

Two great Australian acts release brand new records today, and oddly, both are being released by great Spanish record labels; but, they both come from different parts of the country, so there’s that?

Sydney’s The Brights have released Oyster Rock! today via Meritorio Records. It’s a collection of pop songs with little bits of Western twang lingering in the songwriting. You’ll find a few upbeat numbers, with most tracks working on a pensive point that allows the melodies to sit quietly with you for hours afterwards.

Pop Filter, up in Melbourne, are like the indie rock hydra; you cut off the head of one songwriter, and there’s another equally gifted craftsman’s head popping up. With so many songwriters, Cono feels refreshing at every turner, tossing out subdued little pop nuggets and bouncy bops of badassery. LP courtesy of Bobo Integral.

Tough Age Share Paradise by Another Name

Described by the label as a twee punk ripper, I couldn’t stay away from this fresh new Tough Age track; it’s the last single before they drop their brand new LP next week. Bonus points go to the band’s label Bobo Integral for the spot on description here, which, of course, I absolutely love to death. Tossing in these quick jangling guitars, listeners will struggle to keep their toes from tapping all the way through this track, matching the snappy drum work step by step. And, you’re absolutely going to get blown away by the sweetness of the vocals, dropping in hook after hook with the perfect rise and fall.
