Circling Back to New CBVB
Over the last few years we have managed to watch Craig Benedict Valentine Badynee (CBVB) find comfort and solace in his songwriting craft. Now, with his feet firmly planted beneath him, he aims to reach the heights of the Cohen’s and Lennon’s, taking pop to those stretches of heavenly territory where it seems to supersede any mere nostalgic nod. What sold me, aside from the assured swagger, was the backing vocals, building in this textural layer that almost feels as if its branched into this kind of glam pop category, albeit done with a bit of pure reverence for the genre itself. Love to hear a good CBVB jam.

What started off as a slow week quickly hit hard once the Softies announced their return to the scene after a few decades away. While that may have overshadowed my personal adoration, there was still plenty of cool things to jam out to, or so I thought. The Teenage Tom Petties take on a power pop version of doo-wop, while Chime School announced what seems to be the purest of jangle pop record ever to exist. We had some outsider stuff too that I was super into, like the new Robber Robber single…plus some 7 degrees of Austin made easy with new music from Blood and Lunar Vacation. And, if you need sweet pop feels, try out the new 7ebra or Emma Russack jams. All in all, some great new finds for you here, if you’ll only press play.
If you’re looking to stumble upon a classic bit of pop rock, might we encourage you to listen to the latest single from Craig Benedict Valentine Badynee or
Apparently it’s that time of year when I just can’t help myself; I’m going full-time it seems, as we ran 28 brand new tracks this last week, plus some nods to albums we liked that dropped on Friday. We got some fresh premiere activity from the Wesleys and Max Blansjaar, then there were some recent favorites dropping in new stuff like Lightheaded, Neutrals and Autocamper. Me personally, I loved the new Gregor single, and that new CBVB plays into similar territory. This collection of songs, like my own catalog, is pretty random, though we always tend to aim for left of the left of the dial. Stream on.
