At this point, we’ve almost had enough singles from Cerise to get the feeling of her forthcoming album, but I think the below tune is definitely one that holds to what I’m looking for from her. She’s got this sultry smokiness to her voice; it rests on the cusp of the main mix. Musically, the song’s got this darkened edge of indie rock; I feel like it could almost be considered creative noise, were the levels a bit louder and not contrasting with Cerise herself. She’s releasing Smoke Screen Dreams on June 24th, so you’ve got enough time to look into her before grabbing the LP.

Smoky Pop from Cerise

I already fell in love with the first Cerise single, and I think this one might be even better. There’s a smoky tone to the vocal delivery, but I hear a slightly psychedelic influence, from the guitar approach to the tambourine jangling in the background. I suppose you can say there’s a sultry note, almost sexual, but I think that diminishes the construction of the song itself. Hearing this single has me more amped for the final release of Smoke Screen Dreams, as it sounds like there will be enough movement within the sounds of the album to keep it wholly interesting throughout. Check it on June 24th.

I Want You to Listen to Cerise

I found this track float on over to my inbox late yesterday afternoon, and it got stuck on repeat for a good solid hour. At first it doesn’t seem like much, with the piano and guitar fuzz sitting in one place, more or less. But, when Cerise‘s voice enters, something relaxing swept over me. Her voice is one of those effortless beauties of the sort that spawns legions of die hard fans. If you’re looking for a powerfully emotive ballad to stream for the rest of your day, then look no further than this one. Her album, Smoke Screen Dreams, will be out on June 24th.
