Okay, so this song’s been bouncing around for a day or so, but give a fella a break; I just had a kid, and I’m still here writing about my friends music. The glorious supergroup Central Heat Exchange dropped this tune, letting a little light sine on our lives. Every time the group shares a new single, I’m so impressed and overwhelmed by the balance between the guitar work and the pleasantness of whoever is chosen to helm the vocals; they’re reaching softened melody like no one else at the moment, continuing to deliver promise for their LP, which drops today via Citrus City, Birthday Cake Media and Sunroom Records.

We’ve been hearing rumors of Central Heat Exchange, primarily through out distant connection with Santi of Daphne Tunes/Growl, who is actually in the band; we also knew it was a supergroup of sorts, featuring various members from Varsity, Pool Holograph and Living Hour, not to mention their friends and cohorts. Today, we finally get the joy of the first single, with an announcement they’ve signed with Birthday Cake/Citrus City/Sunroom for their debut LP. Being a fan of all the members, I had high hopes, but they’ve really knocked it out of the park here. The vocals feel like a cool crisp bike ride through hilly territory, cruising lightly, wind at your back. And, while I like the soft jangle approach, there’s these little peaks and valleys in the musical melody that really works its way under your skin. I think my favorite ten seconds comes between 2:20 and 2:30, so be sure to tune in all the way to the end. We’ll keep you posted when we get more news about the LP!

True Blossom Share Serious Boys

As we got off into the Friday sunset (though every day weirdly feels like Friday), I’m trying to offer you up some at-home dance party grooves. We’ve already tossed out the Naked Roommate tune, so now we’re here with the latest from True Blossom. The Atlanta synth outfit will be dropping In Bliss via Citrus City come this October, but here’s your first sneak peek at what you’ll get. I love the percussion that opens, giving almost a tropical feel rather than an industrial vibe; it opens up the song to a little more sunshine rather, accented by synth stabs and dreamy vocals. It’s like an updated take on 80s pop music, taking the template of dance party grooves and building in more textured depth that brings their style into the current climate. Thank me later when you’re done dizzying yourself up in your room.

Dorio Shares Yesterday the Sky Was Blue

Another year and another ATH vs SOTO SXSW Party is ready to roll! Luckily for us, we get to draw on the great Austin acts that are already living here, and one this year’s guests will be Dorio. The band will likely be playing songs off their forthcoming album, Yesterday the Sky Was Blue, with the title track just being shared with the world. I love the bob of this song; it seems to have this playful bounce, almost nostalgically playing with psychedelic undertones, though plodding along happily…which seems to be the detailing of the lyrical content as well. This is just one of those feel good tracks that puts a grin on your face; I expect the LP to do the same when it’s released by Citrus City on March 27th.

Dorio Announces Yesterday the Sky was Blue

There’s so much great stuff coming out of Austin at the moment, and while Dorio‘s been on our radar for some time, the announcement of the new album and it’s accompanying single definitely have built the anticipation up on our end. Honestly, the song itself is great, but there are these little minor details that are making me swoon a bit. A slight touch in the backing vocals just perks the hair up on my backing vocals; it’s an intoxicating hook just adding depth to the tune. I’m also super in love with the faint change in direction just around the 2 minute mark, particularly the guitar work and whistling that follows. Get ready for Yesterday the Sky was Blue to drop via Citrus City Records on March 27th.

Slow Jam from Shormey

Shormey Adumuah isn’t a household name as of yet, but one can bet that you’re likely to find her influences hanging about your record collection; she’s pulling from Toro y Moi to the Temptations to ABBA, leaving just a little slice of heaven she’s crafted all on her own. Her latest single is this shimmering slow jam that uses subtle details to suck you into the tune. You’ve got this keyboard/organ line that seems to sort of stutter on repeat throughout, never losing pace even whilst Shormey slows things down with her vocal delivery; I dig the pop emphasis during the chorus. Get into this now, and prepare for Boogie Island Vol. 1, out May 10th via Citrus City.

Young Scum Drop Indiepop Hit

Did you love that Tres Oui LP? Well, just imagine that album, stripped of Stevesie; you’ll get a clean indiepop sound, which is precisely what Young Scum are offering us on this new single. It ends up giving the band a more spritely version of the pop the Lucksmiths were crafting, but I know these guys have a penchant for distortion, so perhaps we’ll get a mix of both to delight us. Only time will tell, as the band will release their debut LP via Citrus City and Pretty Olivia Records on July 6th.
