Climax Landers Share Valkyrie Profile Video

Sure, you’ve already got your finger on the cool kid pulse for the end of the year, and that’s fair, but the great thing about this “List Season” is you get a chance to go back and revisit some stuff, like the last LP from Climax Landers. It’s a bit all over the indie rock road map, in the best sort of way, blending slower elements with bursts of fuzzy guitars and hooks, like “Valkyrie Profile,” which spends the better part of the first minute in a down-trodden one note land. Boom, the song jangles to life, drums snap and there’s a rebirth of sorts, taking the folk elements and rocking them in a disorderly fashion! Zenith No Effects is out now via Gentle Reminder.

Last Week’s Jams (3.25 – 3.29)

A lot of really great stuff popped up last week, and we did our best to be on top of as much as we could, though admittedly, it’s a bit of a busy season on our parts (life wise). We were stoked to hear some stuff from Austin homies in the Juniper Berries and Strand of Oaks, both offering great new music you’ll love. Zero Point Energy dropped another tune from their exciting debut, as well as new music from Writhing Squares that sees them stretching our expectations of their sound. Plus, got to finally circle back on some things that had been waiting, like Crumbs, System Exclusive and Climax Landers. Oh, and we ran a Rock n Recipes with our friends in Outer World, so be sure to check it. A few acts like Goosewind and Jetstream Pony didn’t have their stuff up on streaming, so be sure to give it a listen if you’d like.

Late to the Game: Climax Landers

The good people over at Gentle Reminder Records sent a note about the forthcoming Climax Landers a few weeks back, and I’m just not really sitting down to absorb it, as I’ve been a fan of all the label’s picks. For me, these are sort of country-tinged rock bangers, akin to something like Nana Grizol or the Glands; it feels very much like a move from college rock vibes into something closer to Americana. You’ll also find some literary value in the lyrical work, and a a fan of clever wordplay, I’m definitely here for that side. If, like me, you’re on board, look for their new LP, Zenith No Effects on May 10th.
