What a week of fun tunes! I was really stoked with some of the stuff we were able to premiere on our end, such as new jams from Lola Tried and Giant Day, not to mention that incredible Morwan track all the way from Ukraine. I was happy to hear some new music from Mary Onettes, as they’ve long been one of my go to listens. Plus, there’s never a bad day for Stella Donnelly, dropping us a preview of her new album. Another Creative Writing Track

If Willie Nelson were a fan of guitar pop music, he’s always have Meritorio Records on his mind, and today, the label is back in my sights with the latest track from Creative Writing. Their newest single is one of the group’s oldest tunes on the forthcoming Baby Did This LP, and it’s one that takes the jangles to a more nostalgic setting, almost working a classic rock sensation into the way the guitars ring out. It perfectly sets up the warmth of the vocal too, which sits just behind the front of the mix, presented as if its a ray of sunshine blessing us with its presence. They even go so far as to turn the last minute or so into a sort of breakaway boogie that would make CSNY a little jealous. Give it a listen and order Baby Did This before its October 3rd release date.

It was a pretty busy week on my end, heading back into the school room and what not, but lots of great music making its way to our ears. Kicking it off with one of my favorite tracks of the year, with the latest single from Sorry, but then moves in to hear our friends I Was a King dabbling in the softer side of power-pop. Plus, the folks at Skep Wax and Slumberland keep pumping out the hits with new music from The Cords and Telephone Numbers. Really excited for you to hear the newest single from Austin’s Living Set too, if you missed it by accident; there’s another Austin act in there too named the Point, you might want to check if you’re into stretching your musical brain! Creative Writing Drop Slide and Dice

When you crank up this new tune from Creative Writing, there will certainly be some familiarity in the group’s sound. I keep getting little pieces of Parquet Courts, albeit with a less frantic approach; the energy drives forward, but this lot seem to be wrapped up in more of a melodic sensation coursing through their sound. While the song has a distinctive underground growl to it, they let it take a turn midtrack, giving a little bit of a diversion for the listener before they drive home their sound at the close. Another exciting track from Baby Did This, out October 3rd via Meritorio Records.

My summer vacation is about to wrap up, so I’ve been trying to cram as much rock n’ roll into the site as I can, and I feel like nearing 30 new songs is a pretty solid outing. There was new stuff from ever-present acts like Gregor, Cate Le Bon, Giant Day and more. Plus, there were some brand newish acts popping up on the scene that I think are certainly worth everyone’s time: The Cords and the Cindys, both UK outfits oddly enough. Some ATX love for Stella and the Very Messed and the Wild Kindness both dropping new tunes. Plus, there are several slow burns that will space out the listen, so you’ve got almost two hours of last week’s jams to enjoy!

Creative Writing Announce Baby Did This

After releasing their True 90s EP earlier this year, folks were already keeping an eye on Massachusetts band Creative Writing. Today, the group returns with this great guitar pop track, announcing their debut album, Baby Did This. I love how the band sits in the groove between jangling guitar pop and modern americana; they don’t really push the sound either way, which inevitably allows the group to work on their own foundation. For me, the balance between the vocal stylings throughout help cement the band’s presence in my music listening; the verses work on a soft spoken nature, then the chorus kind of erupts with a forceful punch, though it never shies from the melody. Such a great reminder of this act’s quality; they drop Baby Did This on October 3rd via Meritorio.
