Last Week’s Jams (7.21 – 7.25)

My summer vacation is about to wrap up, so I’ve been trying to cram as much rock n’ roll into the site as I can, and I feel like nearing 30 new songs is a pretty solid outing. There was new stuff from ever-present acts like Gregor, Cate Le Bon, Giant Day and more. Plus, there were some brand newish acts popping up on the scene that I think are certainly worth everyone’s time: The Cords and the Cindys, both UK outfits oddly enough. Some ATX love for Stella and the Very Messed and the Wild Kindness both dropping new tunes. Plus, there are several slow burns that will space out the listen, so you’ve got almost two hours of last week’s jams to enjoy!

Another Great Tune from Dag Och Natt

We have already embraced new Swedish outfit Dag Och Natt, but after two wonderful singles, I feel as if they might have topped themselves here, and there’s absolutely no reason you should skip this song. In the first minute, it’s all about the atmosphere, and having a great audio setup is going to suck you up like a vacuum into the depths of this tune. Just as it all seems angelic and atmospheric, a bass line bubbles and the track shoots off like a star, caressing the melody whilst pushing the tune in bolder directions. I continue to marvel at their balance of noise and beauty, and they do it in such an exploratory fashion, rather than ride on the build and release that like-minded acts might aim to execute. Their new album, Years and Years, will be out via Labrador on August 15th.

Dag Och Natt Share Falling the Same Way

We were super excited to bring you a Dag Och Natt track just a few weeks ago, and I think they’ve only stepped up their game, so to speak, in regards to this new single. There’s something brooding in the mood itself, perhaps with that guttural bass line operating throughout. But, when it comes to the vocals and the guitars, they seem to embrace the meaning in the song’s title; I keep feeling myself sort of spinning and swirling through some atmospheric space, suspended. The further along the tune moves, the more they build and layer texture, openly welcoming you into the darkened abyss of their brilliant brand of pop. Their LP, Years and Years will be released on August 15th via Labrador.

Last Week’s Jams (5.27 – 5.31)

In one of those weeks that magically felt longer than it was, we managed to cover a fair amount of ground, cranking out coverage of at least 20 new tunes for you. Add to that B. Gray’s excellent Kilby Block Party footage and the Levitation Announcement, and, well, we seem like we have our shit together! I loved that there was new stuff from Ryli and Autocamper, both giving me little doses of my pop fix. There was a lot of new stuff, too, that scratched a different itch, with Fortunato Durutti Marinetti announcing a new LP, coinciding with a fresh track from the new Tropical Fuck Storm LP. A bit all over the map, but in the best way. Let us know what you loved the most.

Dag Och Natt Release Iron Man

Two things you can always be assured of: Stockholm has a great pop scene and Labrador Records loves to help get it out into the world. Dag Och Natt is a new band, though the members have been orbiting around one another for decades, most notably as Lane; they have a debut EP on the horizon this year, with this special drifter ready for your ear. There’s a beautiful loneliness that bends in instantly, two guitars overlapping one another as they create this soundscape that feels like a vast darkness, or maybe as the case of the song, a vast bit of calm or nothing. The tune begs us all to “slow down” again and again, a reminder that we should all take a breath and absorb the musical world around us. Give it a go.
