Daily Worker Share The New Insicerity
Seems to be a great day for really solid rock vibes, which doesn’t mean they all have to hit you over the head. Just listen to this new tune from Austin band Daily Worker, who manages to bring a whole lot of swagger to an acoustic strum. After years in Cotton Mather, Harold Whit Williams knows how to provide listeners with the perfect hook, but it might be the accompanying vocals behind his voice on this one that cement the joy, almost bringing in a late 60s classic rock swell…which isn’t too far off from the meandering psychedelic guitar notes. Always great to hear new music from the project, and even better news that they’ll release Prefab Maverick via our friends at Repeating Cloud on February 20th.
Pretty solid wee of new music last week, and we got to as much as our time allowed. We even managed to start getting some of our SXSW coverage together, as the festival is somehow just over the horizon; RayRay got an interview up with Population II you should check out. We even got back on some album stream coverage, making sure to have the homies in Constant Follower and Daily Worker up there. We continue as the one-site hype machine for Sharp Pins Radio DDR reissue, but there some of my favorite acts also returned with their own new jams to grab us, like Dumb Things and Jetstream Pony. I even jumped on the Sports Team train with their latest single. Get into it below.
It’s an interesting Friday of album releases, with some stark contrasts over here at ATH. We’ve got some heavy vibes from the new Men record, right along some contemplative pop from Andy Bell, a bit of pastoral folk from Constant Follower…then some faves like Austin’s Daily Worker mixed up in the middle. There was so much new music dropping last week that it was hard to keep track of it all, but I think with 22 new songs out there, we managed to do our part. Greg Mendez was a big winner, with a brand new EP we loved; I also definitely didn’t turn away from the fresh Innocence Mission, which maybe one of my favorite they’ve ever concocted. We had a premiere of a new Sunnsetter tune, and also hit up the latest from The Great Divides, so we’re kind of all over the place musically, making this playlist a journey of sorts. Well folks, I’m back in the game full time, teaching, coaching and all that jazz. So, I didn’t hit my previous mark of nearly 30 songs in a week. But, we still had some really great stuff on the site, so it’s organized below in its usual playlist fashion. One of the best group’s in the game, Feeling Figures, bounced out with a rad new single, plus our old pal Caroline Says also announced her first LP in some years. We gave a shout out to some great records by Fake Fruit, Chime School, Hits and more (and yes, I missed Wut and the Softies). Oh, and new jams from UV-TV and High Water Marks closed out the week, so I guess you could say, it was a pretty good time!
For some reason, this past week felt a little slow in terms of new music coming our way, and while I say that, we still cranked out over 20 tracks for you to peruse below. I was super excited for the new track from Low’s Alan Sparhawk, the first music we’ve heard from him since the passing of his Mimi; it was a beautiful piece that shows Alan off on a grand adventure. The Reds, Pinks and Purples snuck in some special new singles, so we’re grateful Glenn got those out into the world. I was stoked on new stuff from Austin’s Marry Cherry, not to mention a new Wut tune that came our way.
