One More Wombo Track

The newest LP from Wombo is going to be out this week, and based on my coverage up until now, you can clearly tell I’m digging what they’re putting down. Yesterday, they gave us one final sneak peek into Danger in Fives, and it’s another track that shows them toying with various musical constructs to build this flowing pop masterpiece. In a sense, they have this same artistic approach as early Deerhoof, kind of jagged and off-kilter, but it’s magically tied together to sound like the world of music was meant to sound that way. Don’t forget that the new LP is out Friday via Fire Talk.

Wombo Shares Spyhopping Single

Every twist and turn on this new single from Wombo seems intentionally set, like the band are purposefully sonically shapeshifting, lulling us into the secretive realms of their sound. At times, struck notes can ring discordantly, but they don’t put you off, only pique your interest as the bass works you back into the rhythm of the track. It goes this way, then that way, letting Sydney Chadwick weave her way through the well-crafted skeletal backbone of this jam. Danger in Fives is out on August 8th via Fire Talk.

Wombo Release Neon Bog

There is something refreshing in the approach that Wombo take to songwriting, at least if we’re to believe the narrative. Their current single, for instance, came about as a recording error, leaving the group with this haunting little march that they fine tuned into this structural masterpiece. Rather than have one focal point, the song seems intertwined with both its mood, themes and title…with Sydney commenting on how things can get murky in relationships, so you find yourself slogging through, weighed down by history, much like one would do if they were stuck in a bog. It’s refined and orchestrated perfectly, tethered to the band’s trademark craft; this continues to weave mystery and promise into Danger in Fives, out August 8th via Fire Talk.

Wombo Announce Danger in Fives

This is the news that I did not even know I needed, but my day just got better with news that Wombo have a new LP on the horizon. Their Fairy Rust LP stayed on for quite some time at my house, and this new track sees them furthering their song craft. Every note on this track seems perfectly placed, with the group employing negative space to let rhythmic notes give accent to the guitars. Sydney Chadwick’s voice is this mesmerizing power, drifting dynamically in and out of the tune, curling around ringing guitar notes like a beautiful haunt. Danger in Fives will be out August 8th via Fire Talk.
