This news announcement is a shout out to my dear wife, who is an avowed Real Estate stan, and I’m sure she’ll love the airy nature of this tune here. Those crisp guitar sounds are exactly what made us all fall in love with the group initially, and their charm shines brightly on this track. According to the band, the lyrical content is all about the well of inspiration that artists draw from; it’s an apt analogy, as you can interpret the various stages of writing with water…sometimes its plentiful and other times drought hits hard and things dry up…like my writing here today! Oh, and fellow New Jersey natives and Nickelodeon fans might recognize cast members of Pete & Pete making an appearance in the video. They’ll release Daniel in February of next year via Domino Recording Co.

Miss Miranda Shares Daniel

Miss Miranda is the songwriting moniker of Miranda Haney, a recent Austin transplant via Baltimore who I met through my wife’s sister’s boyfriend. She’s been writing some tunes, though Austin hasn’t quite been treated to her songwriting often enough ( insert something about pandemic), so I figured I oughta share them up here. Her latest single is an intimate affair, mostly working with Haney’s voice atop the strum of her guitar. I love the faint quiver in the rising vocals when she meets the chorus for the delivery of “he’s got a voice like Daniel/and a voice you’d recognize.” That there my friends, gives you that 10 seconds of bliss I always crave in my tunes! Anyways, Mondays always end up fairly sedate, so figured I’d close out my day with this one here…a strong new voice from Austin.

New Tunes from Oupa (Daniel of Yuck)

If you’re looking for more Mascis-infused fury from one of the members of Yuck, then you can probably skip this, as it’s nothing like that. Instead, think more along the lines of an Atlas Sound bedroom session. Oupa is the project of Yuck‘s Daniel, and he’s going to have release his debut Forget LP some time in June of this year. You can tell by this single that there’s definitely something to draw you in, whether you like the rising vocal in the chorus, or the darkened tones of the piano as it plays out through the song. And, if you’re in Austin for SXSW, you’ll be able to catch Daniel doing his thing at the Gorilla vs Bear Party on March 17.
