Twin Bloom Share Magazine Dreams

Feels like today is all about indulging in tunes that have longevity or lasting power, which is why Twin Bloom appeal to me (not to mention their association with Dandy Boy Records!). They’re skirting around the edges of various trends, be that dream pop or shoegaze, but they are approaching it with the mentality of good old fashioned hits. In this tune, you can hear brooding post-punk riffs and elements of bent, dreamy notes too, but I keep coming back to the vocal core, which feels bright, rooted in an earnestness you’d find in a great Teenage Fanclub chorus. A fairly new act to keep your eyes upon!

Day Collector Share Debut Single

David Kitz and Luke McQueeny (Conflict at Serenity Pools) have long been friends and collaborators, but today they put that friendship together for their new project, Day Collector…with the name an homage to their late friend June Sanregert. Their goal was to create something that neared the perfect mixture of Arthur Russell and Wilco, so the warmth of the songwriting and spirit is almost immediate. The steadiness of the tune really allows the duo to build melodic moments that seem to float atop the strumming, finally cresting around the 2:20 mark when just the faintest hint of noise gets build in for structure and differentiation. Looking forward to where the group will go!

Pleased to Meet You: Spotless Souls

Fresh off of celebrating their Europa League triumph, our friends over at Soliti Music have just picked up a new artist to keep our eyes on: Spotless Souls. Their debut single is out today, and it drops a hint that not all dream pop should be treated equally, or elegantly. This Finnish quartet have adopted the cavernous sound on the genre, but instead of overflowing the front of the mix with noise, they’ve pulled back a bit, letting vocalist Alina take the spotlight. Don’t get me wrong, her vocals operate in the dreamy category, but by letting the chime of the guitars sit behind her, there’s a larger focus on the siren-esque performance. Look for more from the group in the near future!

AUTOS Share Stay Clean

If you’re looking for a rad power pop tune to crank up in your stereo, might we guide you to the latest track from Santa Cruz outfit, AUTOS. At the moment, they’re wrapping up the finishing touches on a new EP, but are tossing out a staggering smash to keep your eyes on the prize here. When the tune kicks off, it almost teases retreading garage rock, only to stutter and bring in a bit more of a pop swagger, snapping with drum hits and riffs that are begging to be freed. There’s a certain point where they can take it no more and let loose with the expected swagger that keeps the tune cool! This song brought to you by Dandy Boy Records, who will drop the EP next year.

Sundozer Shares Debut Single

We’ve always gotta keep our ears to the speakers in terms of Austin acts, as it seems there’s constantly something we can dive into, like Sundozer. Honestly, I don’t know a bunch about the project, other than its relatively knew, considering this is their debut single. This track has a bit of that late night chill to it, albeit washed over with hints of dream pop and jangling notes; you can hear the guitars dancing all around as the wash of synths coats the song’s core. Whispering vocals crest and fall into the track, sinking into the mix while the rhythm hits giving off just a bit of a kick to the tune. It’s a bit of everything, be it bedroom pop or indie pop, perfect for late night chills or daydreaming at your window.

The Sprouts Release Debut Single

You need look no further than the band members of The Sprouts to know I’m going to be on board; you’ve got folks from Dippers (Thigh Master), Permits and Chook Race, all rocking and rolling as a brand new animal. The lot all gathered in Melbourne to bang out a collection of songs set to hit at the end of March, so let’s check this sample. You get churning guitar notes, not quite rocking the jangle, but offering up this sort of Aussie swing that certainly excites. Multiple voices overlap throughout to remind us of the joint affair…and the power of singing with your best mates. Then we get the added bonus of a fiery little solo guitar riff to close out the track in fashion. Sign me up as a fan! Eat Your Greens is out on March 24th via Tenth Court.

Iceblynk Share Debut Single, Tragic

The opening moment of the debut Iceblynk single grabbed me immediately; it teased me as if I was going to fall head over heels into the land of dense post-punk with wee little jangles. But, the song sort of evolves into something more spiritual, just on the cusp of dreaminess. When Andrea Lynn’s vocals hit, it sort of sets the song spinning differently; she’s got these sharp tones that seem to contrast with the vibe, but their ethereal nature ends up punctuating the bits and pieces that bring the song together. The song’s fade out really ups the ante too, so be sure to dive into the drama. The band will release their self-titled debut EP on October 21st!

Wet Leg Sign to Domino Records

Ever come across a song and feel like you’re not cool enough to be enjoying it? Or maybe its just too much fun and you feel like you’re going to drown in the hipness? Well, that’s how I’m feeling about this debut single from UK outfit Wet Leg, who just signed to Domino. The song’s got this driving rhythm to it, fueled by a pummeling drum beat that just has us running at full speed. But, the vocal delivery is definitely on par with that pseudo-spoken word vibe that’s been super popularized of late; it leads to an infectious hit that encompasses the best bits of rock n’ roll, delivering pure unadulterated fun. Pretty sure I’d have no problem being an extra in this video. Looking forward to more!

Hot Coppers Share Sunflower Seeds Single

You’ve likely heard Gareth Parton’s work before; he’s produced work by the Breeders, Foals, the Go Team and more. But, the pandemic gave Parton the time to fall back in love with songwriting, which benefits us all as he shares his debut single as Hot Coppers. I’m not sure what I’m more in love with, his velvety vocals or the way the song’s have been masterfully arranged. Give it a close listen and you’ll hear an array of sounds, all lifting the song’s melodic core to listeners waiting at the altars of pop music. This has that early Jeepster Records feel to it, if that’s your cup of tea. Look for the debut album later this year via Lost and Lonesome.

Tim Wilds Shares Debut Single

This pandemic is fucking with my head. One moment, I’m sitting there, you know, contemplating and what not. Then I’m off ready to run and rock. With this track from Tim Wilds, I think it’s perfect for the first state. It opens with quietly picked notes; you can hear Wild’s slide his hand up and down the neck of the guitar changing notes. When Tim comes into the picture with his voice, it offers deepened tones, calming as he carries syllables into the next. There’s something so narrative in the presentation, as if the song is some newspaper boat set adrift on a small stream, carried by Wilds’ voice. Something gentle to set your mind at peace.
