Villagerrr Share Another Bonus Track

The benefits of compiling a deluxe edition of a popular record are that you get a chance to try on a few new songs, maybe even a new feeling or two as you look towards your next release. We here get to reap the rewards of the Deluxe Edition of Villagerrr‘s Tear Your Heart Out. On this brand new single, I was all over that guitar line; it could work as a striking ballad, or the opening to something even heavier, and I think the tune plays with both sentiments. Mark Scott’s voice has this folky melancholy to it, but the track takes the quiet and flexes it out with a bit more boisterousness…and for someone who jams a lot of tunes…this is the sort of risk that always pays off. You can grab the Deluxe Edition of the LP on October 10th from Winspear.

The Point Announce Deluxe Edition of Maldito Animal

Our friends over at Keeled Scales have teamed up with Spaceflight Records to provide a Deluxe Edition of the Point‘s latest record, Maldito Animal. If you haven’t visited their sound, you’re going to have to be prepared to head out on adventure, as they employ an array of grooves and influences to create this sort of global funk. The announcement of their new Deluxe Edition comes with this new single, working with a kind of Latin influenced groove that stretches the track into this cinematic feel. You’ll also hear little licks and reocording tricks that almost feel like vocals, so take a turn into the new sound. Maldito Animal DE is out on September 26th.

Villagerrr Sign on with Winspear

Earlier this week I mentioned the crushing of indie rock beneath the feet of Winspear; they’re the label behind Winter and Teethe, and they’ve just added another ATH fave to their roster, agreeing to work with Villagerrr to reissue a Deluxe Edition of Tear Your Heart Out. I didn’t think they could really improve upon the original LP, but they’ve gone and added 5 new/unreleased jams for the deluxe edition, including this sweet jam we’ve got hanging out below. It’s a light little number, an area where Mark Allen Scott excels, though he gets a little help from a friend as Feeble Little Horse‘s Lydia Slocum provides an excellent vocal duet role, making me wonder what else could the band have in-store for those other four tracks. Guess we’ll all find out when it the Deluxe Edition hits on October 10th!

Lutalo Celebrate The Academy Deluxe Edition with Cracked Lip

What better way to celebrate the one year anniversary of your debut album than by throwing in a few new tracks and re-imaginings of the original? Well, Lutalo and his label Winspear are doing just that, and the track below is brand new to all of us! I love how the liner notes acknowledge an adoration for Rob Crow, which is something that I adore, not to mention notice every time I listen to the guitar lines. The little melodic wiggle at the 1:18 mark adds a nice little textural touch, as does some of the more spoken vocal deliveries. If you’re into grabbing the new LP, the Academy Deluxe Edition is out on September 19th.

Nihilistic Easyrider Shares Two New Jams

Jacob Duarte is already a fairly big name in these parts of Texas, known for his role as the front person in Narrow Head. But, the last month or so we’ve been focused on jamming to his Nihilistic Easyrider solo work, bringing you two fresh tunes to jam to today. You can almost take these two songs as a split, one showing Duarte’s leanings towards a softer bit of indie rock, while the other harkens to his pop punk roots. I loved the guitar playing on “Weekend Fever,” as it definitely feels like stuff you heard in the late 90s emo scene; the guitar lines show some great musicianship too, so I don’t want you overlooking that! “Facedown” is a bit more aggressive in nature, like the best Saves the Day song that was never written…and its brief, so you’ll want to dive in real quick! Look for Deluxe Edition on July 25th from Run for Cover.

Nihilistic Easyrider Release Getaway

As the front person for Narrow Head, Jacob Duarte has to work as a team, but for Nihilistic Easyrider, his solo project, he gets to take all those ideas spinning in his head and do with them whatever he pleases…and we reap the rewards. It’s interesting that this announcement comes the same day as a new Superchunk tune, as you can certainly hear the pop rock enthusiasm in both tunes; it’s an earnestness to just let yourself be freed by hooks and noise. Duarte does a great job, too, toning it down a bit to bring in a melodic nugget in the vocals, calm and sweet, which offers a touch of juxtaposition. The new collection of tunes under the title Deluxe Edition will be out on July 25th via Run For Cover.

New Stuff from Solidarity Club Records: 2 Am Wake Up Call + Rat Fancy

Bandcamp Friday should be about supporting your friends and making sure they get some ample love; we’ve all got bills to pay, right? Well, our friends over at Solidarity Club (also delicious coffee roasters!) have just signed on to work with 2 Am Wake Up Call, so they’re sharing a brand new video from the act. It’s a rambunctious little rocker, and for someone who grew up in the Y2K hysteria, somewhat nostalgic too, particularly when it comes to the video. But, along with the new signing, the label is also putting out a Deluxe Edition of Rat Fancy‘s Stay Cool album, which features label-owner Gregory. All the proceeds from that release will go to legal funds associated with the singer’s official name change to Shawn Barraza; they’re great humans, so we’re here to lift that up! Check the video, and stream Stay Cool, and help where you can!

Pains of Being Pure at Heart Release Bonus Track

D700-Pains-Ans-303If you missed out on picking up your copy of Days of Abandon, the latest offering from The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, you’ll be happy to know the deluxe edition heading your way tomorrow will feature several brand new bonus tracks.  This tune has a pretty clean quality, which seems to have been the approach Kip took on writing the song for this album; the gaze-iness is pulled back in favor of maximizing some great melodies.  My ears seem to think it’s even dreamier than their earlier offerings, including just the right amount of jangle in the tunes, though softening a bit around the edges.  Enjoy your listen below.

More From Young Galaxy

Deluxe Edition of Ultramarine promotion continues.

Young Galaxy has another track up to send a shiver to your giggly bits. This one has a bit of a Eurythmics feel, in their darker times, a track Marilyn Manson would consider remaking. Maybe it can restart his career. I have seen pictures from recent shows. I guess he still tours. I have never seen Nathan and Marilyn Manson together. I am suspicious.

Back to Young Galaxy, I like this song. Quite a bit. You should, too.
