I’m going to beg you to come to this show. I absolutely love the Terry Malts and their no bullshit live shows.  They’ve come through town before, but their return to Austin comes on the heels of their latest release, Nobody Realizes This is Nowhere (Slumberland Records). It’s just another excellent record that deserves a huge audience, so be part of that on Thursday night.  If you play your cards right, you’ll also be treated to excellent sets by locals New Arrows and Shivery Shakes (who just finished recording their own LP!)  Great bands deserve great audiences so they can put on great shows…come be part of it.

More New Music from TV Ghost

TVGHOST2_Greg_The_MayorOver the last few weeks I’ve found myself immersed in the dark album soon to be released by TV Ghost.  They’ve titled the record Disconnect, and In the Red Records will release the album on September 3rd.  I think a lot of people are going to be really impressed, especially if they have the patience to let these tracks unfold.  On the latest single, there’s a stabbing guitar pulse that ends up providing a rhythm for the track, while the cymbals carefully shake in the background.  I think, for me, the most interesting thing about listening to this track is that the band is able to maintain your attention with each track, even though several tunes span over the five-minute mark. Here’s a new one to enjoy.

Angular Post Rock from TV Ghost

TVGHOST2_Greg_The_MayorListening to this new track from TV Ghost, I’m reminded of what I always expected Interpol to become.  Haunting vocal performances haunt the track, and the guitars cut in and out of the forefront of the song, often lurking back into a cave of distortion.  There’s this driving tension that holds the whole song together; it almost seems to have this beautiful insanity wrapped tightly beneath a blanket of crashing cymbals.   The fact that the song sprawls over five minutes long only adds to the feeling of impending doom, which, oddly enough, you’ll find yourself enjoying. Embrace it when the band release Disconnect on September 3rd via In the Red Records.

Fuzzy New Single from Terry Malts

There’s been lots of great records this year, but one that’s going to be in my top five for sure come the end of the year is Killing Time from Terry Malts.  But, not a band to rest on their laurels, the group already has a new single ready to go on Log Lady Records.  It’s going to be a split affair with Dead Angle, and it demonstrates the continuous power of a Malts release. If you jam to the stream below you’ll find those fuzzy guitars and solid percussive moments that have come to define the group’s sound.  You can pick up this jam on June 12th, so keep your eyes open!
