Last Week’s Jams (8.26 – 8.31)

Stella is getting her groove back, or at least I am. Managed to get my feet underneath me a little bit this past week, so we’ve got a pretty decent amount of tracks to represent. Threw out a couple of premieres for the homies at Feel It Records, with new No Peeling and Fan Club dropping this week. Turned around and dropped some Austin love for Skloss and Whisper too, which is always a goal. Really enjoyed my own introduction to the tragic story of Stroik, with a powerful tune you should put on your radar. Nice to see some favorites on the dial too like Sharp Pins and Frog. But man, this Happy Dust Gang tune in here is just my jam!

John Moods Joins Up with Discovery Zone

As I revel in the vibes this week, maybe we should turn our attention this morning towards John Moods and Discovery Zone, who’ve just dropped this collaborative single. Musically, there’s a gentleness, which comes as a surprise as the lyrical content seems to detail a shattered relationship, albeit one that continues to unfold and reemerge as the times goes forward. The bobbing bass beneath the Discovery Zone vocals add this brilliant layer that creates the sublime mood I’m basking in as I write this. And then, well, the tune takes off, moving into this more futuristic realm, perhaps hinting at what lays before us all. This tune available courtesy of Mansions and Millions.

Gross Relations Bring Out Another Single

grossrelations_masksRayRay posted the first sweet jam from Gross Relations less than a month ago, and I have to follow in his footsteps in order to bring you this new single from the band.  This new single still maintains the group’s lo-fi aesthetic, at least in so far as the recording goes, but personally, I’m feeling a hint of 90s alternative rock.  No, it’s not “Cumbersome,” unfortunately, but those of you who grew up with 90s radio will probably hear the same sort of catchy accessibility, while still seeing that the group isn’t just pandering to fans by making watered-down alterna-rock.  Their self-titled album will be in stores next week from the dependable folks at Old Flame Records.
