This news announcement is a shout out to my dear wife, who is an avowed Real Estate stan, and I’m sure she’ll love the airy nature of this tune here. Those crisp guitar sounds are exactly what made us all fall in love with the group initially, and their charm shines brightly on this track. According to the band, the lyrical content is all about the well of inspiration that artists draw from; it’s an apt analogy, as you can interpret the various stages of writing with water…sometimes its plentiful and other times drought hits hard and things dry up…like my writing here today! Oh, and fellow New Jersey natives and Nickelodeon fans might recognize cast members of Pete & Pete making an appearance in the video. They’ll release Daniel in February of next year via Domino Recording Co.

King Creosote Shares New Single

At the moment, I’m really enamored with the work of King Creosote; there’s something in the way his songwriting continues to grow and reflect upon itself, allowing him to link albums and singles along his catalogue. On his latest single, there’s the employment of beats and his folky songwriting, reminiscent of Diamond Mine, which he worked on with Jon Hopkins. This go round, there almost feels like the beats add texture, pushing the song into more cinematic territory, which matches up with the beautifully stark nature of the visualizer accompanying the latest single. I Des will be out on November 3rd via Domino.

Alex Izenberg Releases Disraeli Woman

Honestly, I have no idea who Alex Izenberg is, but I’m going to spend today correcting that mishap by listening to his debut, Harlequin; for now, I’m stuck on this new gem he’s just dropped. He’s got this soulful croon to his vocals, and the song itself seems drenched in R&B rhythms. There’s all these little nuances lurking in the nooks and crannies, which elevates the song’s emotional pull, not to mention making it every bit as current as anything else you’re likely to hear; it’s one of those tunes straddling the past and the present. This tune appears on a new 7″ available from Domino Recording Co.

Spinning Coin Announce Debut Album

We’d likely have posted about Spinning Coin again, as they’ve just announced their debut album. But, for me, the importance revolves around Edwyn Collins of Orange Juice doing the production work for the band in the studio (makes my day). The video encapsulates a casual experience, but the song seems to pull from our favorite parts…all from different directions. The vocals occasionally reach for the skies, tonally, a la Real Estate‘s early work. Guitars have a definite jangling affinity for all things Oceanic (both modern and past renditions). Plus, there’s this steady bounce that should please any pop fan. All these combined in one track make the odds of Permo being a success rather high; look for the LP on Geographic Music on November 10th.
