Don’t Get Lemon Share Matrimony Video

If you live in Austin, or the surrounding areas, you might have caught the new Don’t Get Lemon single on the 101X Homegrown radio show this past Sunday evening. But, you now have access to the video treatment of the song, fully embracing the nostalgia and the flashing homage to great 80s MTV. Musically, they let the synth work roll over and over, dropping glittering notes atop thumping grooves that should prove exciting. The verses definitely entertain with their energetic punch, though you’ll also find brief little interludes that highlight the craft of the Austin trio. Their bandcamp page has three different versions of the tune, and the accapella is definitely an interesting way to view the group’s craft!

Last Week’s Jams (10.13 – 10.17)

There was a lot of really great music, and in all likelihood, we’re nearing the end of the yearly cycle, where I expect to kind of see a flutter of singles then the lists will pop up! On our end, we covered a lot of the ATX this week, with new stuff from Jet Cemetery, Don’t Get Lemon, Gus Baldwin and Living Set. There were some new tunes that really rocked me, like Deathcat‘s pop punk masterpiece, not to mention the new Winged Wheel noise pop piece. Even managed to find some room for old favorites like Living Hour, Pia Fraus and Bubblegum Lemonade among the masses! Crank this playlist up, as it starts with a banger from Possible Humans.

Don’t Get Lemon Share Paid Holiday

There’s a lot of new wave revisiting over the last several decades, but very few acts are really diving back into the original blend of bold pop with electronic foundations, at least not in the way Don’t Get Lemon do! The Austin outfit begin their with a twinkling synth line, it’s got a synthetic percussive snap too, giving just enough pace to let the vocals come in and off a classic pop croon. Thrown all together, the tune blossoms into this beautiful chorus that seems fitting for a dance scene in a John Hughes movie. They take their time to let the tune move off into a mid-track excursion, which I certainly appreciate, then swing for the fences as they bring the bold pop sound home. Go back to the future with this jam!

Last Week’s Jams (4.22 – 4.26)

It’s been a strange few weeks if I’m looking at the numbers on our Last Week’s Jams; we’ve run 28 songs for the last three weeks, compiling a fun playlist that runs at 1.5 hours. Well, whatever, time’s on your side my friends. We were fortunate to premiere a couple of stellar tunes this week from the Ar-Kaics and Noelle and Deserters; one offers a crackling fire of psychedelia while the other is a bit more old school western vibes. And, there was the joyous return of Bad Moves! Of course, we also filled the pages with new stuff from Lightheaded, Laughing, Luma Fade, Lunchbox and the Laughing Chimes…you know, all the big Ls! Some Austin love as always via mentions of new records from Don’t Get Lemon and Hovvdy too. Sit back and get into Monday.

Don’t Get Lemon Release Have Some Shame

What better way to open up your Tuesday coverage than with a bit of brooding post-punk, such as that offered by Austin’s Don’t Get Lemon. We’re offering up a little glimpse at the band’s work via the single below, hinting at both sides of the coin you’ll find within the confines of their new Have Some Shame LP (it just dropped today!). Musically, they dive head first into the genre, filling space with heavy bass lines and thundering drums as synths and guitars offer up a melodic atmosphere that hides the darkness. Then, as if you can’t immediately tell, you get the deep dark tones of Austin Curtis’ vocals, living in space between Gahan and Sam Herring; it leaves you with a sentiment both haunting and endearing, tumbling you further into the depths of their new LP. You can stream the whole LP HERE.

Last Week’s Jams, Today (1.3 – 1.7)

Well, we’re back at it folks, scrambling back into the new year, which feels an awful lot like the last year, except, well, there are new tunes. I didn’t go too overboard, as I was trying to get my feet underneath me for another semester, so we only had about 10 news jams, but unfortunately, only 9 are available via everyone’s least favorite streaming service. Most of these are brand new singles, with a heavy focus on the forthcoming Slumberland catalog, courtesy of Artsick and Kids on a Crime Spree, plus some of our favorites like Modern Nature, Nah… and Husbands reminded us what they’re all about. So, have it. Stream on!

Don’t Get Lemon Announce Hyper Hollow Heaven

I know we’re all downtrodden, at least if I’m to believe everyone’s personal feeds, so thumping beats with masterful hooks are just what the doctor ordered going into 2022 full speed, and thus, I give you Don’t Get Lemon. The Austin three-piece are crafting this danceable brand of pop that’s built on layered textures that build and build throughout their new single. You can easily hear the pulsing beat here, rushing the song through your speakers; little electronic flourishes also make their way out, but it’s the atmospheric wash mixed with the heavy vocals that has me intoxicated. If you can hear the promise in this tune, then perhaps we can convince you that your money will be well spent by grabbing Hyper Hollow Heaven this coming March!
