Last Week’s Jams (1.9 – 1.13)

We had a rough start last week, with a wee bit of server issues…plus getting back into work after some time off. But, we came back to a bunch of sweet tunes from some ATH favorites…new videos from Blues Lawyer and En Attendant Ana, not to mention one that tied up the excellent LP from Doom Flower. I was blown away by another fresh track from Joyeria, and RayRay did a little write up on our friends in Why Bonnie. I was really in love with that Grey Factor tune we ran at the end of the week, but it hasn’t made it onto streaming platforms, so check that out before digging into new EPs from Dippers and Peel Dream Magazine.

Doom Flower Release Sweep Video

Going back through all the incredible tunes from early in 2023, I’m reminded that Doom Flower still feels like this hidden gem folks haven’t latched onto quite yet. Having just released Limestone Ritual, this video is a reminder of the darkened haunts that pop music will creep around. Immediately, the video and the sound immerse you in a heavy wash, creating this almost industrial vibe, awaiting Jess Price’s entrance. When Price comes in, her voice lifts the ambiance, albeit just a wee bit; her voice rises, but then almost seems to fade as syllables and lines end, being washed over by the waves of music (and visuals). Be sure to delve into this whole LP, out now via Record Label Records.

Last Week’s Jams (12.5 – 12.9)

If your one of the seven people that hit up our site regularly (thanks mom!), then you might notice a title change. Nothing big, but just dropped a word because I was tired of pretending to be too clever. I’m not. Alas, we are still out here covering as much music as we have time for, and still trying to figure out how to incorporate the TMZ style drama that makes the cool sites so popular. So, for me, last week had some highlights I was pretty stoked upon; I got to hear solid returns from Lust for Youth and Jackie Mendoza, not to mention another brilliant electropop goodie from Das Kope. We got the announcement of new Julian Never, Galore and Blue Lawyer LPs, which should make everyone in the Bay Area proud. Plus there’s a great show preview/review from J.Wags on Golden Dawn Arkestra, so be sure to check out his work!

Doom Flower Share Candle Habit

The new album from Doom Flower is on the horizon, and I feel like I’ve perhaps been sleeping a bit on it, but that’s changing today! Their new single is the perfect little pop piece to sample as you, too, look towards the release of Limestone Ritual. Circumstances forced the band to change directions slightly in the recording process, which while frustrating seems to have built this beautiful bit of trip-pop. That’s right, they’re toying with textures and break beats to create this melancholic pop brand, punctuated by the crisp vocal delivery from Jess Price. Working within the confines appears to be paying off huge dividends, as the LP feels like a very special listen. You can hear all of Limestone Ritual in January courtesy of Record Label.
