En Attendant Ana Drop Single for SubPop

We’ve been huge supporters of En Attendant Ana over the years, and I adored last year’s Principia (Trouble in Mind). Today, out of nowhere the band dropped a gorgeous new single for the Sub Pop Singles Club, which continues to show the band stretching their pop sensibility. “Magical Lies” picks up where Principia left us, using this bobbing bass line to work its way throughout, adding a bit of bouncy lifeblood to the ethereal wash of vocal melodies. Then, you get to “Teeny Tiny Tyche,” which feels like the group is aiming to take on more open spaces in their songwriting; the tune has a striking vocal performance, with plenty of room left behind the voice for the notes to flutter about. These two new tracks are available now!

Show Preview: En Attendant Ana @ Hotel Vegas (5.18)

I wanted to run this preview yesterday, but seeing as I already had one Trouble in Mind post, I figured it could wait until today. So, tomorrow night, those inside the greater Austin area can catch Parisian outfit En Attendant Ana playing over at Hotel Vegas. They released the brilliant Principia earlier this year; it showed a lot of maturity in terms of allowing the empty space of their songs to have the same emotive pull as their more energetic bits do. It may seem like I’m talking trash here, but imagine taking a great guitar pop band like Alvvays and asking them to really stretch their sound beyond the confines of expectations for that style; it made Principia one of the more rewarding LPs of this year. Tickets are $10 at the door, which seems super reasonable, and they’ll be joined by Dorio, Exercise and Dmitri: Doors are at 9. You can grab the new LP HERE or at their show!

ATH vs SOTO SXSW Party – March 12th @ Hotel Vegas

First there was Covid, then I had another kid, but I’m back this year to reignite the annual AustinTownHall vs SideOneTrackOne SXSW Party. It’s a 3 stage extravaganza over at Hotel Vegas, bringing in some of our favorite acts from all over Austin and having them throw down ridiculous sets that make us all proud of our music scene. Huge shout out to John at SOTO and 101x Homegrown for the organization, and thanks to the Vegas crew for having us back here. This year, we’ve even got a fun playlist for you to sample the tunes and share around to get your friends excited.

Show starts at 3 PM on March 12 at Hotel Vegas/Volstead! FREE! See you there!

Last Week’s Jams (1.17 – 1.20)

You’d think in a short coverage week, we’d have few tunes, but there was so much great stuff last week, that we couldn’t help but to try and cover as much as we loved. Personally, I fawned over new Lachlan Denton, Cor de Luxand Tiny Ruins, plus continued my support for Spice World as Album of the Year. I also hit up the Austin scene with new stuff from Bayonne, Dorio, Fantastic Purple Spotsand Rad Gnar. RayRay loved that new Pile tune to death and premiered a new Strawberry Fuzz jam you can find lurking in here too. If we missed something super cool, let us know, otherwise, here’s a way to pass an hour of your day, happily.

Dorio Drops Fresh Single, Light Me Up High

Our good friend Chad Doriocourt, aka Dorio, has just dropped a fresh single from the forthcoming Strawberry Dream LP. Almost immediately, you can tell that the project is going to be taking on some new levels, driving in more bounce and hooks to Chad’s songwriting repertoire. You can hear the lineage with the band’s early work, as the backing vocals and melodies have always been central, as they very much are, but you’ve got to be willing to get a little funky sometimes, exactly as its being done here. It’s like taking your favorite guitar pop band and giving them a dancefloor remix, gathering you and your friends to have the time of your lives as the night comes to a close. We’ll keep you posted when we have more info on the new LP.

Dorio Drops Dorio’s Robot Friends EP

If you missed last year’s Yesterday the Sky Was Blue LP (Citrus City), then now seems like the perfect time to turn on some solid pop from Austin’s Dorio. Just yesterday, the band dropped Dorio’s Robot Friends EP, picking up on last year’s album and weaving the craft just a bit differently. The immediacy of the bounce in “Robot Friends” will hook you right from the start, only made more endearing by the perfect vocal combination that springs up here and there. Then the EP offers a couple of creative instrumental bits before turning you onto the screwed pop stylings, using the band’s penchant for pop hooks and chopping it up into this slow fizz. Hopefully this EP signals there’s more new stuff on the way!

Dorio Shares Yesterday the Sky Was Blue

Another year and another ATH vs SOTO SXSW Party is ready to roll! Luckily for us, we get to draw on the great Austin acts that are already living here, and one this year’s guests will be Dorio. The band will likely be playing songs off their forthcoming album, Yesterday the Sky Was Blue, with the title track just being shared with the world. I love the bob of this song; it seems to have this playful bounce, almost nostalgically playing with psychedelic undertones, though plodding along happily…which seems to be the detailing of the lyrical content as well. This is just one of those feel good tracks that puts a grin on your face; I expect the LP to do the same when it’s released by Citrus City on March 27th.

Dorio Announces Yesterday the Sky was Blue

There’s so much great stuff coming out of Austin at the moment, and while Dorio‘s been on our radar for some time, the announcement of the new album and it’s accompanying single definitely have built the anticipation up on our end. Honestly, the song itself is great, but there are these little minor details that are making me swoon a bit. A slight touch in the backing vocals just perks the hair up on my backing vocals; it’s an intoxicating hook just adding depth to the tune. I’m also super in love with the faint change in direction just around the 2 minute mark, particularly the guitar work and whistling that follows. Get ready for Yesterday the Sky was Blue to drop via Citrus City Records on March 27th.

New Ditty from Dorio

Dorio has fortunately crossed our path on several occasions this year, once with the track “Shortcuts” and also as part of our annual ATH vs SOTO show. We come across the project today as they’ve dropped another bouncy pop number that’s the perfect ear worm for your listening rotation today. The bounding piano line looped into the track, along with the percussion set the perfect playful mood in motion, allowing Chaz to coolly rest his voice atop the notes. It’s the sort of song you can see a crowd joyously pogoing before you with these insatiable hooks blasting through your speakers. Keep an eye on this here act, ya hear?

New Music from Dorio

You might have seen our poster for the ATH vs SOTO party (and if not, go HERE) leading you to wonder aloud who on Earth is Dorio? Well, you’ve likely heard Mr. Chaz Doriocourt in some various fashion over the past few years in Austin, and now you can sample his new project below. It’s a really strong pop vibe; I really appreciate the various layers in the song’s arrangement…a nice surprise. Even better, there’s a video with Chaz clowning about and living life to the max with a huge grin upon his face. Such a good tune you don’t wanna sleep on.
