Electronic Groove from Grounders

groundedWhen I first pressed play on this Grounders track, I honestly expected something a little different.  The first twenty seconds or so have this glittery electronic fold to them, leading me to believe it was going to be a hard-hitting piece of electro-pop.  But, rather than push forward with a heavy (beat-laden) hand, the band pull the pace, slowing things down to allow the track to unfold in a fashion that’s built more for foggy mornings than late night ragers. You’ll find songs such as these on the bands self-titled full length, which hits on May 12th.

Slow Trip with Hungry Cloud Darkening

hungryHungry Cloud Darkening has probably gotten the most notice as the backing band for Mount Eerie, but the more that I gig myself over to their latest single, the more I feel that there’s something far more important in their own solo work. There’s not a lot of movement within this track, but it’s clear that the sonic exploration holds the key to finding meaning in this tune.  Vocals come at you from a far off world, moving in and out of the soft percussive elements and the other lite tinkering.  I hope this is the sort of music we get when the group releases their record, Glossy Recall, on October 7th via Off Tempo.

New Jam from Beast Patrol

With such a ferocious name you might have an intimidating sound in mind when you first put on Beast Patrol, but let me assure you that won’t be anywhere near the actual outcome.  Their debut EP, Fierce & Grateful, is on its way on September 25th, and this track sort of employs sonic similarities to Beach House, but with a heavier swirling guitar and limited electronic notes wrapped behind.  Hopefully people give this group a chance, as there’s definitely something incredibly special happening with this tune here.
