Dropkick Share Snowflakes Single
When I pressed play on the new single from Dropkick, I instantly though there were going to be huge bursts coursing through here; the guitars have a bit of bite to them. Of course, as soon as the vocals come in, the tune twists into it’s typical whispering charms, reveling in the cooled vocals that serve as the gravitational force that pushes the band forward. Even with that velvety core, this song’s production just makes things feel infinitely huge, much like you found in early TFC tracks, which is a valid comparison to make here. Really excited to get to the whole of Primary Colours; it drops via Bobo Integral on February 2nd.

In a world where folks are rushing to put out their year end lists, so you can debate their tastes, I’m just over here putting out songs with my bud RayRay. We covered a surprising 21 new songs last week, and 22 if you included a tune that’s not on any of the DSPs. Tons of rad Austin stuff like Strange Lot, Gus Baldwin, Lunar Gold…and of course the ATH Records’ own Fantastic Purple Spots. New music from FACS and Sprouts made my week complete, though I also found some soft spots in there you can dig through on the site. Don’t forget to also check out our Rock n’ Recipes with Sasha Bell of the Ladybug Transistor, just in time for their little tour and reissue! We also got to premiere a brand new Gaytheist tune worth your time!
I apologize for taking Friday off, but had to head out of town with my old lady to celebrate her birthday. But, wanted to run a Last Week’s Jams post as there were some super rad tunes sneaking under the radar of the masses. I can’t get enough of this Cistern track that kicks this playlist off; it’s matched up with the most energetic tune from the Green Child‘s new LP. Plus, old ATX songwriter Matthew Squires made an appearance, which always warrants a celebration. Cool new stuff from Ryli got us started off in the week, not to mention the great slow burners we get from the latest Constant Follower and Wussy records. Press play and thank me later.
It’s difficult to write about new music today, but as always, I’m just going dive into my feelings and really great tunes, like this new single from
This whole 2023 thing has been quite a shit show from those at the ATH offices: forced server changes, loss of electricity, loss of Internet (still!), and we’re old! But, we keep pushing on, as there’s still plenty of great tunes for you to cover and enjoy. It was good to hear that our old pal Jana Horn has a new LP on the way; she’s been one of my favorite voices forever. I think my favorite jam of the week came from the latest single from Roller Derby…with a video that has lots of nods to Austin and their journey to SXSW last year. Plus, Elephant 6 added the Rishis to their roster, so be sure to give a listen. Label of the week clearly goes to Slumberland with more Frankie Rose and new Reds, Pinks and Purples. I aim to hopefully have more tunes up this week! But enjoy a quick journey through what we loved last week!
I typically do not go all in on holiday singles, but I will, however, go all in on anything coming from
