Dropkick Announce Primary Colours

It’s difficult to write about new music today, but as always, I’m just going dive into my feelings and really great tunes, like this new single from Dropkick. The band have just announced their return to Bobo Integral for a new record, Primary Colours, and a new single has come across the pond, to at least let us indulge in the warmth of their sound; they offer breezy vocals that work around the softened jangle of the guitars, wafting through your speakers with a calm that soothes at it hits your ears. Look for Primary Colours to drop on February 7th.

Dropkick Share Don’t Give Yourself Away Video

If there were a band in the indiepop/power pop realm that I feel folks were overlooking, I think I’d have to put UK outfit Dropkick right up near the top. They’re churning out these gentle pop numbers, just left of the dial, but with all the melodic hits that make pop so incredibly endearing as a genre. I love that their latest video has the band just doing what they do best, playing in their own studio space; there’s no pretense or drama…just good old fashioned pure-pop songwriting. The band will release The Wireless Revolution on April 28th!

Last Week’s Jams (1.30 – 2.3)

This whole 2023 thing has been quite a shit show from those at the ATH offices: forced server changes, loss of electricity, loss of Internet (still!), and we’re old! But, we keep pushing on, as there’s still plenty of great tunes for you to cover and enjoy. It was good to hear that our old pal Jana Horn has a new LP on the way; she’s been one of my favorite voices forever. I think my favorite jam of the week came from the latest single from Roller Derby…with a video that has lots of nods to Austin and their journey to SXSW last year. Plus, Elephant 6 added the Rishis to their roster, so be sure to give a listen. Label of the week clearly goes to Slumberland with more Frankie Rose and new Reds, Pinks and Purples. I aim to hopefully have more tunes up this week! But enjoy a quick journey through what we loved last week!

Dropkick Announce The Wireless Revolution

So glad to have a new Dropkick tune to warm us up a little bit today. The group, led by Andrew Taylor (also of Boys with Perpetual…) are masters of crisp pop songwriting, hanging out somewhere in the realm between jangle rock and power pop. Just like his other project, there’s nothing that blankets you in joy like the sound of Taylor’s voice; it’s got that fireside familiarity, allowing you to revel in the crisp riffs that ring out. Good old guitar pop doesn’t get any better than what this lot push out there; their new album the Wireless Revolution will be out this April.

Last Week’s Jams, Today (11.14 – 11.18)

It’s that time of year when songs begin to dry up for some reason, as we’re all just expected to put our lives on hold to gather some lists for you to browse. Still, we managed to get some new tunes out your way, hoping to keep your eyes on the prize. I loved the new Spice World tune, and was fortunate to be able to run a video premiere for the latest from Shaki Tavi. We’ll likely still have a handful of tunes for you this week, but will likely take a little break ourselves to kick it with our families.

Dropkick Release Holiday Single

I typically do not go all in on holiday singles, but I will, however, go all in on anything coming from Dropkick, as the band haven’t led us wrong just yet. They’ve just announced a quick little two track single, recorded amidst the mapping out of their new LP, which should come in 2023; the single’s possibly meant to be a little stop-gap and tease while we wait. As with anything Andrew Taylor is penning, there’s a nice little strum, toying with the ability to ring out sharply if necessary; the vocals add in that holiday spirit, brining you the warmth of your favorite festive drink. Why not start off your day with this tune, eh?

Dropkick Announce The Best of Dropkick

One of my favorite LPs of last year was The Scenic Route, released by UK act Dropkick; it was filled with charming understated jangles and warm melodies that soothe. Well, while hunkered down in quarantine, the band have written some new tunes, remixed some old tunes, and dug into the crates to compile The Best of Dropkick; its 30 tracks of indie pop that will surely seem like required listening as we jump forward into 2021. Plus, the double LP release features this brand new track below, and I reckon that will be enough to entice us all to pick it up; it drops on March 5th via Sugarbrush Records/Sound Asleep Records.

Nathan’s Favorite Albums of 2020

It’s been a crazy year, and a depressing year, so perhaps we all retreated more into our record collections to seek out that fleeting joy. On my end, I spent a lot of time running/walking in the ‘burbs, so these are the records that played the most in my life…thus they are my Favorite Albums of 2020. The validity means little to anyone other than myself, but since you stop by, perhaps come by and check out my list!

And, just an FYI…there are 30 bands, and I linked back to Bandcamp pages so you can buy directly from the artists…except that one band because apparently they’re too cool…even though that album rips.

Dropkick Share Another Single Off the Scenic Route

Let me just say this…if you’re writing guitar pop music at this very instant, please make it sound like Dropkick. The Scottish outfit have been around for a bit, but the forthcoming album, The Scenic Route, just seems to get better with each single used for promotion. Listening below, you’ll hear that ringing semi-jangle, encouraging a slight toe tap and head bob; it’s subtle, as are the band’s many charms. Sure, the vocals could be described as warm or gentle, but I think of them more as pleasant…something I’d sit and listen to with my mom on her back porch. It’s short, it’s catchy and makes you feel good about the world (for once), so be sure to pick it up from Bobo Integral; it drops on February 7th.

Dropkick Share Catching On

With the vinyl release of the Lucksmiths Naturaliste last month, it had me wondering, who is best suited to fill that void in my life? Seems like Dropkick are the perfect band to fill that void, especially with what we’ve heard from the forthcoming The Scenic Route. This new single is filled with understated jangle, just playfully crafting a warm melody that perfectly aligns with the delivery of the vocal lines. I love the vocal in the chorus; it feels like its sweeping down from above to carry you away in this blanket of blissful harmony. The new LP will be out on February 7th via Bobo Integral.
