Swirling Indie Pop from Skittle Alley

skittlealleyWarm weather brings varying moods, and while sometimes we curse the heat, in Texas I can say that it definitely brings to mind spritely indie pop, such as the recent work of Skittle Alley.   Luckily, the band, who’ve been posting lots of new songs, seem to have something in the works with the very excellent Dufflecoat Records.  This new tune is full of warm melody, shimmering guitars and a casual pace that will surely leave you smiling as you listen; that’s interesting as the new release seems to be titled The Memory of a Smile.  This tune is perfect to let your mind drift away, and I hope you do, grinning all the way.

Oh, and the artwork was done by Ray Kimura who has done excellent work previously for Alpaca Sports.

Beach Vacation Checks WA Weather

beachvacayI’m waiting for this rain to clear away, so in searching for that, I’m also searching for some sunny music to carry me through these rough couple of weeks.  That’s how I discovered Beach Vacation, who’ve got their Maritime EP ready for release from Dufflecoat Records.  The sound of the guitar opens the track in exactly the right direction, with a swinging sensation that immediately provides joy for the listener. There’s no reason not to listen to this track and get excited about the group at hand.  You need something to cheer up your day, then come here and jam to Beach Vacay.

New Music from Slumbook

495304221-1One of the little labels that I have a great deal of respect for is Dufflecoat Records, a small-time label out of the UK.  Now, they might not release tons of stuff, but they release really great dreamy pop tunes that always find their way into my daily rotation.  Their newest signing looks to be Slumbook,  a group originally formed in the Philippines.  As of right now, there’s not tons of information out there on the group, but you can’t ignore a great song can you? No info on the release date as of yet, just sit back and enjoy.  I’ll keep you posted on the rest as it comes.

New Pop from CornerBoy

Running a site like ours does take a bit of work, so I always check in with my favorite labels to see what they’re working on, and when I went to Dufflecoat Records, I was really excited to see this new CornerBoy release.  The tune has a bit of angular guitar work that plugs you into the primal sensation of good indie pop.  I can’t help but hear the ghost of Robert Pollard in the vocals, which of course makes it all the more special.  You can pick up the new EP, Just Another Sunday Song, from Dufflecoat now, and you’ll be glad you did.

Rad Tune from Cave Cat

Man, I really love this track from Cave Cat.  I wish I knew more about this group of Swedes, other than they just released this great 7″ on Luxury and Dufflecoat Records.  It’s definitely a bit of a wayward jangle, but the atmospheric bent of the vocals and ringing guitars puts this band on par with groups like The Mary Onettes…another personal favorite.  I particularly love how the guitar solo knifes its way through on the latter half of the tune. Dig it, kids, and check out another track “abject” here.

New (ish) Indie Pop from The Lost Homeboys

Surely you’re all aware of my thirst for Swedish indie pop, and I was satiated today when a friend send me this recent EP from The Lost Homeboys.  They didn’t have to do too much  to convince me, considering members of the band are also part of The Electric Pop Group, a band in the heralded stable of our friends at Matinee.  This gem comes from the group’s Leaving Town EP (out not on Dufflecoat Records) and it’s a five minute trip down the beautiful road of indie pop goodness.  Something about that guitar sound gets me every time, and the vocal definitely found its way to my heart.  I hope you’ll enjoy this one.
