New Bop from Evripidis and His Tragedies

Starting off the year in a grim fashion, we’re hoping music can offer up that solace many of seek, which is the intent of Evripidis and His Tragedies and their latest single. They crafted the tune to offer a “pop gem that will help dance away any mental crisis,” which it certainly does if you’re willing to spend some time. There’s a glittering pulse that pushes through the tune, while Evripidis allows his pop enthusiasm to dance and glide across your living room floor; you deserve to let your body and mind be free for a moment. You’ll also find a nice little nod to Orange Juice lurking inside. There’s a deep catalog of music from the group available, so don’t be afraid to pop back and see what else the group have to offer!

Slow Burning Electropop from Fake Fever

Wednesdays always feel like you’re half way there, yet you can’t quite take that step to get to the weekend…that could also just be my general state of being with one foot straddling the past and the present. Anyways, my mood this morning gets a little accompaniment by way of this Fake Fever tune. Andrew Barnes days in heavier bands has definitely lefts its mark, as this track is all about the build; it adds textures that make you feel as if you’re slowly climbing some treacherous mountain. The weight is heavy on your back, but you keep trudging forward, and when you get glimmers of vocals, you can feel the sun on your face, the brightness of the pop structure shining through. Fake Fever will release Inside the Wall via My Pet Flamingo on September 1st.

Another Azure Blue Ditty

Hints of a new Azure Blue release began to surface not long ago, and with that, the band have dropped another delightful electropop gem. It’s a dense wash of synthesized beats, with a driving rhythm that works beneath the entire track; very much a Stephen Morris nod in my opinion. But, what I love about Azure Blue is that they seem to adopt a softened indiepop approach to their vocal delivery, which makes the music both danceable and endearing upon repeat listens. I expect I’ll listen quite a bit when Fast Falls the Eventide is released next week via Matinee Recordings.

Electropop Vibes from Black Fly

This new tune from Vermont’s Black Fly is really getting me ready for the weekend. It has this darkened electropop vibe, prompted by heavy synth lines and a natural hook in the song’s craft. The vocals have the tendency to spin things slightly differently, almost more geared towards anthemic indie rock; it serves to give the tune a bit of contrast between the melody and the driving rhythm. It’s a fun little number that definitely will pick up your spirits…if you dig TRUST, then this is your new favorite jam.
