Matthew Paul Butler Drops New Single

I grew up in a house surrounded by singer-songwriters; my dad was a huge Townes fan to say the least, so the genre has always been dear to my heart. So, here comes this great Matthew Paul Butler track popping its head into my weird little indiepop world. It’s weird how you notice the odd little things that make a song, like for me, the piano lines really make this track come together. I’m drawn to the natural tension in Butler’s voice; you can feel it push the song to its edge, finally breaking in a shattering fashion near the song’s latter half where all that emotion is unleashed onto the listener. Open yourself to this tune and you’ll be grateful, then turn your attention towards Hymns for the Dying, his new LP out on Epifo on November 15th.

Alibi Share Parallel Existences

Not too long ago, I shared a moving tune from Alibi, the new recording project of Mike Naideau…and today we’ve got another one up here for you. This one seems apt for the current time, as there definitely seems to have some striking similarities to D. Johnston. It’s really sparse, relying on the emotional pull of the vocals, with some very careful drum work added to the background and string arrangements built in to further the atmosphere of the tune. If you’re looking for an intimate recording that makes you feel like you’re part of the song, then look no further. Become Your One is out now on Epifo Music.

Alibi Shares After the Earthquake

There’s all sorts of beautiful nostalgia in every little note being crafted by Mike Naideau for his Alibi project; I think of bands like Arab Strap, Bedhead and a slew of bands on early Saddle Creek. Of course, this sound is one that’s quite personal, one that sometimes is best experienced in the quiet of your bedroom. That’s an interesting experience, as it almost feels like Mike’s recorded this tune in that very manner, layering vocals to build in some fragile intimacy. In that, it feels like Naideau is celebrating life’s little imperfections, all the way down to the ambient soundbites that fill in some of the song’s negative space in the song’s latter half. Then the song returns to round things off with these half-hearted drum rolls and softened vocal notes before fading into the ether. This song has all the feels; it’ll be included on his new record Become Your One, out on Epifo Music later this Fall.
