Joyce Manor Share I Know Where Mark Chen Lives

I think if Bob Nanna was working in the modern pop scene, he’d probably sound an awful lot like this new Joyce Manor single, and I mean that in the best way. There’s something about Barry Johnson’s delivery in the middle of the verses that just has this natural bounce to it, and in doing so, it opens up the chorus for this massive hook. That chorus hits you with this explosiveness that doesn’t shy away from being catchy, embracing the band’s lineage and pushing forward simultaneously. Personally, I’m drawn to their naturalness, if that makes sense, as the track’s don’t seem put on or like their mimicking their heroes, so it’s refreshing to hear a song hit in this fashion. Looking forward to I Used to Go to This Bar, out January 30th via Epitaph.

Rosie Tucker Shares Habanero

I’ve spent the last few days in anticipation of this new track from Rosie Tucker, knowing we’d get it in our hands today. There is just something about the songwriting that always seems to work for me; they take some artistic liberties in the songwriting formula, which for me, gives enough distinctive flavor to keep me coming back to their work. Opening with an analogy to my least favorite pepper, you immediately get introduced to the clever wordplay, and for all intents and purposes, it starts in some familiar territory. But, just after the 2 minute there’s a momentary instrumental breakdown, beginning to toy with their own established sound. Still, the musical turns aren’t over, as they slow the whole tune down to a crawl at 2:40, leaving us with this emphatic thematic push that closes the song in an utterly charming fashion. A new LP, Sucker Supreme, is on its way in April via Epitaph!

Long ago, we could claim responsibility for helping Summer Salt to new heights, having released 2 EPs with the band on our label. But, now all the success is on the band and their hard work; they tour non-stop, driven by playing to all their fans. Andwith that success comes new label, Epitaph, who will be releasing the group’s newest effort, Happy Camper at the end of September. This is perhaps the best way for you to start off your week, with the band offering their take on traditional harmonies, maximized by Matt’s ever-powerful harmonies atop the band’s work.
