Last Week’s Jams (9.15 – 9.19)

ATH got her groove back! Okay, maybe not entirely, but feel like we’ve gotten some solid coverage this week, bringing you some stuff that the other hit promoters might have missed. I wanted to start the playlist off this week with the new single from Massage, as that track made me rush out and count my quarters to grab a copy. RayRay reminded us that Shy Boys are still a force to be reckoned with, while B.Gray is out there encouraging those remaining tickets for Levitation to get picked up. Otherwise, we’re a little all over the place, stylistically, moving between the post-punk of Optic Sink and electronica of Sam Prekop to the quiet beauty of Greg Jamie; there’s a little something for everyone if you click play below!

Field Hospitals Drop New Pop Hit

Minneapolis quartet, Field Hospitals first popped up on our radar in May with their Ethel Green EP, but they’ve already returned with another ditty that illustrates their ability to write infectious pop hits. They approach this new number with this earnestness that rides the back of the smattering of drums, pushing the energy from the guitars enough so that the swing allows for dueling notes of brightness combat one another. Those of you who love the early works of Ducks Ltd will love this, and we’ll cross our fingers that they get right back to work on more new tunes!

Last Week’s Jams (1.27 – 1.31)

Well, the year’s fully in swing, as evidenced by the ridiculous amount of music we got to listen to, though we only managed to write about a mere 25+ tracks and albums. I’ll cop to the fact that the end of the week was the highlight, hitting with a new Lone Striker single on the same day we got The Laughing Chimes album out there. Buffet Lunch continued to flex their musicianship, while the Rishis offered a brand single from their next LP. New Tunde Adebimpe and La Securite had us on the trends, but in the end, I was just glad to hear new stuff from our friends in Seasonal Falls. What will be your favorite jam of last week?

Field Hospitals Share Sister Jane

I was instantly drawn to this Field Hospitals single; the crispness of the guitars, semi-jangling in the forefront was enough to capture my attention. They carry that spirit forward, building on the matching stomp and strum, letting the wistful push of the vocals drive the song’s energy forward. Something about the band’s work feels almost like 90s alternative, which would make sense, since they draw from the spirit of REM and like-minded acts to build their sound. They’ve got a new Ethel Green EP slated for release on February 7th, so be sure to check it out, as I promise you won’t regret. It’s like an American version of RVG…and you know I love that.
