Last Week’s Jams (10.14 – 10.18)

There was so much new music dropping last week that it was hard to keep track of it all, but I think with 22 new songs out there, we managed to do our part. Greg Mendez was a big winner, with a brand new EP we loved; I also definitely didn’t turn away from the fresh Innocence Mission, which maybe one of my favorite they’ve ever concocted. We had a premiere of a new Sunnsetter tune, and also hit up the latest from The Great Divides, so we’re kind of all over the place musically, making this playlist a journey of sorts. You can’t go wrong by pressing play below!

Fightmilk Share Yearning and Pining

I can tell that you need an enthusiastic rocker this morning, and what better way to go at it than introducing you to the latest single from Fightmilk. They tease you when you first press play, so just take a breath and enjoy the light strum and melodic vocal offering. Just before you hit the 30 second mark, the drums smash through your speakers and the tune runs right off the rails; the vocals take their melodic curl and turn it into more of a melodic growl, supported by a softer backing vocal. The way they set up their chorus hook is pretty special, allowing them to drive home their messaging in a perfect fashion. Just another solid effort that should put their new LP, No Souvenirs, on your radar; it drops via Fika Recordings on November 15th.

Last Week’s Jams (6.24 – 6.28)

For some reason, I felt like last week was kind of a slow-burn, but then when putting all the tracks we mentioned together, was stoked to see we had a solid amount for you to enjoy today. Personally, getting to celebrate new music from Feeling Figures and Being Dead feels like the world gets a win. But, there were also some great LP releases from the likes of Laughing and My Best Unbeaten Brother, amongst others. Totally excited to hear news of another endeavor from Mexico’s Mint Field, not to mention we got another sneak peek at what’s coming from the next Bad Moves LP, which of course has us stoked. Fightmilk Share Summer Bodies Single

What I love about the pop punk scene at the moment is the ability for bands to really take on deep themes, like the concept of self-love that runs through this fresh single from London’s Fightmilk. Akin to many of the acts like Spook School, Martha or Fresh, they’re breaking down the subject matter while breaking down huge riffs and hooks galore. This tune’s got lots of punch, and even moves from classic bits of pop rock into more aggressive territory as the vocals soar through the speakers; it hits you in the face then gives you a nice melody hug, which is what makes great pop punk, if you ask me. Check it out!
