The Just Joans Share Limpet Single
A few weeks back, The Just Joans returned with one of my favorite tunes of the year, and yes, I say that with all seriousness and hyperbolic intent. Their new single doesn’t miss either, bringing in that orchestral brand of chamber pop that made us all fawn over the early Belle and Sebastian records. First, you’ll fall in love with the vocal approach, using the male role as the lighter foil in the distance. Second, the stomp and spin of the piano is perfectly situated to give you a bit of a spiritual bump. And lastly, you’ll walk away adoring the final verse or lyrical delivery, as that closing 45 seconds just grew a smile on my grumpy old face. Fika Recordings drop Romantic Visions of Scotland on January 23rd.

A lot of really great music dropped today, and, well, we’d be poor stewards of the underground if we didn’t point you in the right direction for some of these new releases. You get indiepop legends returning after a lengthy absence; you get a bit of a modern take on the Pastels; try on an eccentric crooner; and end up with a little noise pop. You can’t go wrong with any of these releases, but as always be sure to support the artists and labels!
