Beautiful Folk From Cameron Blake

Hopefully we all survived the weekend of torrential downpours and took the safe route on the way to work this morning. While hunkered down for 3 straight days, I found myself really enjoying this song “After Sally” from Michigan based songwriter Cameron Blake. The track is a nice blend of acoustic, folk-pop music similar to Austinites Okervil River or one of the older songs from The Decemberists. Have a listen and stay dry people.

Cameron Blake will release Fear Not on November 17th.

Delightful New Tune From Covey

What a pleasant surprise finding this new single “Same White Shoes” from Boston based outfit Covey. The song is a sort of slacker folk style of song which manages to be fun and playful while still maintaining that drab style. It’s an interesting and fun take on an older indie folk style that is sure to warrant repeat listens. Check it out below.

Covey will self-release Haggarty on September 22nd.

More New Music From Dear Blanca

Pobrecito - Album ArtAbout a month ago I came across South Carolina band Dear Blanca and their promising new take on this sort of poppy, folk rock music.  Today I’m excited to share with you another great track from the band called “Noma”.  Once again you will hear those folk rock tendencies that are equal parts intimate and beautiful as they are powerful and breathtaking.  I’m sure to be paying attention to these guys in the future.

Pick up new album, Pobrecito, on July29th via Post-Echo.

New Beauty From Cave Singers

We ATH kids have always been huge fans of Cave Singers and the beautiful and gritty folk music they’ve been creating for the last 4-5 years.  They seem to be one of those bands that might be considered under appreciated by many, as they seem to have a decent following, but not near the fan base you’d expect from such incredible music.  That being said, you can imagine my excitement when my inbox had this new gem “Have to Pretend” waiting for me.  It’s set to appear on the band’s upcoming album Naomi due out March 5th on Jagjaguwar.

New Beautiful Folk Number From Alameda

While endlessly searching for new music on the interwebs, I came across this band from Portland called Alameda that caught my ear for a minute.  They seem to fit in nicely with the Portland scene as they have that sort of cool folk sound reminiscent of North Westerners Fleet Foxes.  I could even see them being a nice mix of our locals Balmorhea (if they had vocals) with that now super famous Portland folk grou.  The song below “Summer Dharma” appears on the band’s upcoming LP entitled Procession due out September 15th.  Maybe now we can get them down to Austin for a show.
