Last Week’s Jams (2.12 – 2.16)

Sorry for taking off yesterday, but we’ll be honest, this site’s run by folks in the education field, so when we’re granted a rare day off mid-semester, you better believe we’re hanging with our families! But, here I am with hopefully a link to last week to set you up for this week. We covered perhaps too much music last week, getting 28 songs on the mark, and I was super stoked to hear that both Parsnip and Mammoth Penguins were back in business…with new albums heading our way. Plus, Kindsight gave us another sparkling single from their forthcoming LP via Rama Lama Records. I’m in on new Bolis Pupul, so we’ve got that, plus Unwed Sailor have a new release…there is maybe too much new stuff out there! Just take a listen!

Footballhead Share Overthinking Everything

If ever there was a tune that encompassed the spirit of a jilted Valentine’s day lover, musically speaking, I think it might be this fresh Footballhead track. Press play, wait a moment for those stabbing notes to set you up, then you’re greeted by this huge wall of pop punk that smacks you right in the face. If you’ve got the volume up, you might rush to turn it down, but in doing so, you’ll find yourself ensnared in the band’s pop tendencies, teasing you their blended balance of noise and pop. It’s loud and boisterous, and should get you raring to go today, just in case you didn’t get those roses I sent you. Overthinking Everything is out March 1st via Tiny Engines.

Last Week’s Jams (10.30 – 11.2)

Last week was a bit of struggle. Had a bit of the post-Levitation exhaustion, plus that whole Halloween thing with my little kids. So, maybe not as on top of it as we usually are, though we filled in the latter bit of the week with some jams. We got to post incredible indiepop from the likes of The Laughing Chimes and Postal Blue, with an added bonus Rock n’ Recipe piece from Lightheaded. Good to see the announcement of Austin’s Wet Dip‘s forthcoming LP, so we made sure that was included in our coverage. Plus, since last week was Bandcamp Friday, we had tons of recommendations such as the Smashing Times, Erik Nervous, and more…just because it’s not a Friday doesn’t mean you can’t buy an LP!

Footballhead Shares Habits Single

Struggling to recover a bit this week, particularly after a bit of dehydration and a night spent with my little ones at Halloween. So, I wanted to drop this quick little energetic banger from Footballhead; the song has this natural immediacy to it, allowing you to feel the punch from get-go. Musically, it sort of feels like it’s taking notes from late 90s alternative and sprinkles of the modern emo scene; you can hear that rattling sound in the guitars as the drums pound behind. I loved the way the vocals embrace this earnestness, this feeling of promise that always seems just out of reach. This track will appear on the group’s new LP, Overthinking Everything, out in 2024 via Tiny Engines!
