Brother Sports Share Distractions

Let’s start Friday off with a catchy little tune from one of our favorite Austin acts, Brother Sports; you’ve gotta keep it local in times like these, rights? Musically, you’ll find the band offering up a nice blend between the Growlers and the Strokes; it’s all about the sharp stab of the guitar lines to really drive the song’s energy forwards. You’ll find that surfy semi-growl in the vocals, holding tight to some garage rock tendencies while still offering up a healthy dose of pop sensibility. I feel like we all could use some solid distractions in our life, so why not start today with a tune titled “Distractions!”

New Music from Slush

Let’s start off this wonderful Friday with a poppy rocker from Slush that’s sure to turn a few heads…but don’t be too quick to make your opinion. Musically, it’s a saccharine bit of grungy pop, maximizing hooks with plenty of “oohs” and “ahh;” you honestly won’t be able to turn your head away from the track. Lyrically, the band coyly wait until the middle half of the track before you even know that the entirety of the tune is an ode to the menstrual cup. The band’s new EP will be out May 10th via Hysterical Records.

Austin Spotlight: The Zoltars Are Back

the-zoltarsI feel sorry for those in Austin that aren’t hip to the Zoltars.  They might seem unassuming, but the vision of Jared Zoltar has kept the band crafting infections pop songs that deserve your attention.  And now, the band are returning with their 3rd LP, which, based on this single, should be a delight for listeners in our town and beyond. I dig the swagger that pervades this tune; it sounds like Jared’s on to something cool that you want to be part of.  They’re going the self-titled route for this effort, so look for that LP (and buy it) when Happenin Records tosses it out on February 24th.
