Goblin Daycare Share Liar Liar

Through the first few singles, I’ve been totally on board with Turkey’s Goblin Daycare, and as of this new single, that’s not changing. There’s some sonic similarities to what folks are doing in the US scene, like the Oh Sees, but what I enjoyed here was that they kind of peeled away layers of the sonic onion, getting down to the most frantic core of the track. You’ll hear those jittering guitars knifing their way through here, but the drum work is seemingly sedated (in sound only); it leaves plenty of room for the vocals to crawl through in this goblin-esque manner. It’s like they’re begging you to dig deeper into the genre, and I’m totally here for it. They’ll release Agitpop Hotline on May 17th via Dedstrange.

Last Week’s Jams (3.18 – 3.22)

After a week where I felt we left our visitors down, due to some musical gather in Austin, we came back with a vengeance this week. We repped some hometown heroes, announcing that Eastside Suicides would be reissuing their debut, along with a new tune from our friends in Blushing. Perennial site favorites Rural France and Red, Pinks and Purples made their usual appearance with fresh tunes for you. I loved new stuff from Winged Wheel and Yea-Ming and the Rumours. Honestly, I don’t think there’s a bad song in this playlist, which duh, we get to hand-pick what we cover. Press play and enjoy.

Goblin Daycare Share Boss Man

Years ago, I was super excited by the likes of Thee Oh Sees and such acts. But, after a hot minute, everyone was doing it, all the way to the gizzards and their wizards, so while there’s some lineage in Goblin Daycare, their approach feels refreshing. Honestly, it almost feels like they’ve take the structure, and just decided that they’re going to turn the whole sound into some sort of monster, making it an abomination within the genre. This new single is bouncing and sharp, with that frantic nature punctuated by these insane vocal lines that fit perfectly into the wobbling wold of the keys as the track hits that chorus. If you’re looking for a little refresh, be sure to look into Agitprop Hotline, out May 17th via Dedstrange.

Last Week’s Jams (2.26 – 3.1)

As we ramp up towards SXSW, things have been in full swing over at the ATH camp. We ran a bunch of our “getting-to-know-you” interviews with the Ophelias, Jess Cornelius, Tigercub and Native Harrow. But, we also covered a shit-ton of new music that’s worth revisiting, if you’re up for it. Our old friends Blushing dropped a new tune from their next LP, plus we got to hear more from Dancer and Torrey in relation to their new releases. Long time ATH faves like Mo Troper and Rosie Tucker made an appearance too, with each having their own new records on the horizon. Plus, a bunch of other greats like Red Sleeping Beauty, Klaus Johann Grobe, Non La and more…so dive on in.

Goblin Daycare Share Business is Business

You should be keeping an eye out on Turkish outfit Goblin Daycare for two reasons: 1) they absolutely rule 2) there will be news of a new LP soon! Listening to their latest track, it’s a refreshing take on a lot of what’s currently trending in the “scene.” There’s a furious rush of adrenaline, something that would fit on any number of records by punk acts of today. But, they also offer a bit of this quirkiness, a bit of the oddball in the way they bring their hooks into the songwriting, which is more reminiscent of acts like Devo. Even still, you can see them saddling up an act like Oh Sees or King Gizzard, just by the nature of the sound, but in what they’re doing to keep the song succinct, it actually makes it more enjoyable…on my end anyways.
