Last Week’s Jams (10.14 – 10.18)
There was so much new music dropping last week that it was hard to keep track of it all, but I think with 22 new songs out there, we managed to do our part. Greg Mendez was a big winner, with a brand new EP we loved; I also definitely didn’t turn away from the fresh Innocence Mission, which maybe one of my favorite they’ve ever concocted. We had a premiere of a new Sunnsetter tune, and also hit up the latest from The Great Divides, so we’re kind of all over the place musically, making this playlist a journey of sorts. Fridays are always great days to just settle into your chair, couch, bed, whathaveyou, then just escape the world for a few hours. What better way than to stream some brand new music that’s dropped into the world? There’s a bunch of stuff out today, but I sort of handpicked what I’ve been enjoying and listening to the most, hoping you can latch onto a bit of that as well.
A ton of new music dropped this past week, and as usual, we were on-hand to cover the stuff sliding under the radar of the cognoscenti. We had a few premieres, like the latest from UVTV, which finds the band slowing things down and exploring the shadowy tones of dreampop. I made sure to hype one of my favorite releases of the month, Mo Dotti, which I’m hoping is on the way to my doorstep any day. Still, some of our favorite labels Meritorio and Bobo Integral dropped new tunes from Slack Times and The Psych Fis, and we filled in the gaps with popular favorites like 2nd Grade and Greg Mendez, among many others. If there is one song I want you to listen to it has to be the absolute smash hit from Maine’s Big Blood; I think I’ve listened to that track 1000 times since I’ve heard it, if not more. Of course, there’s other great tunes to enjoy as well, like that pop ditty from Tough Age, or Rama Lama’s new signing, Echo Ladies. Plus, Austin held its own again with new stuff from Dress Warm and RF Shannon. And, if you’re looking for something with some legs, there’s at least a handful of tunes stretching beyond the 4 minute mark, so indulge as you must.

We covered tons of territory last week, particularly as we ran tons of little interviews in our Meet the SXSW Band features; it’s also the Spring season, so that means there are tons of announcements about new records and such. I was stoked to hear new stuff from Constant Follower and Mary Onettes, plus we premiered new tune from The National Honor Society and Hot Coppers. And, seeing as its SXSW, we got interviews back from Daiistar, Taleen Kali, Hamish Hawk and a ton more, all with little introductions plus their music.
