Throwing Muses to Release Purgatory/Paradise via HHBTM

TM-photo-steve-gullickPurgatory/Paradise saw a limited CD release last year, which earned Throwing Muses some incredible press.  But, with the CD medium not always reaching all the corners of the world, HHBTM Records has opted to release the full length via vinyl and cassette.  The song below is one of the main singles from the band, so why not revisit for a taste of what you’ll get when you, undoubtedly, pick up your own copy.  Kristin Hersh sounds as confident and strong as she ever has, and that goes for the whole album, not just this track.  You’ll definitely want to take a listen if you haven’t already.

Gleeful Tune from Joanna Gruesome

jg12After an excellent album on Slumberland Records last year, Joanna Gruesome are here with a brand new 12″ to illustrate why they’re one of the most exciting acts of the last few years.  They’re splitting this 12″ release with Trust Fund, with three songs coming from each band; the US release will come via HHBTM in late September.  The immediate infectious quality of this song comes in via a jumping rhythm and male/female vocal duties.  There’s even some erratic shouts in the background to help keep the band’s edge in tact.  Fall in love with Jerome below:

New (ish) Music from Joe Jack Talcum

joe_jack_joust_by_ronnie_bakerJoe Jack Talcum is probably better known for his comical word play in songs like “Big Lizzard,” but it seems that the Dead Milkmen songwriter has long had a soft side that I wasn’t even aware of, despite calling myself a fan. HHBTM is releasing the second collection of Talcum’s home recordings, illustrating a more down-trodden songwriter; this song has a heavy buzz on the guitar in the recording, showing us all what lo-fi really is meant to sound like.  So if you’re wondering what one of your favorite writers does in the confines of his home, give a listen to Home Recordings Vol. 2 1993-1999; it’s available right now.

Rocking Tune from Eureka California

DSC_4222x-editI really love a track that just gives into the soul of the song, discarding all the bullshit to the side.  That’s the feeling I get when I listen to pretty much every song on the up-coming Eureka California album.  Their songs are catchy, as you’ll see below, but aside from standard song structures, the group doesn’t worry about much else; they dive into their songs with reckless abandon, emboldened by the spirit of just playing good rock n’ roll. You can pick up their new album, Crunch, from HHBTM Records as we speak.
