Jalen Ngonda Drops Hang It on the Shelf

The power of a singular voice is an amazing thing, and I’ve been in love with Jalen Ngonda‘s pipes since they first time I stumbled across his work. Today, he shares a fresh track, and I’m definitely all about the vibe, pulling on some traditional soul/R&B vibes to really light up my morning spin moves. There’s a steady rhythm on this tune, letting Jalen do the dancing with his voice, as the musical piece is pulled back just enough in the mix to really let him shine. Just listen to the way he belts out those notes during the chorus, only to pull them back carefully as he rolls into the next verse. Really looking forward to Doctrine of Love when it drops June 5th via Daptone Records.

Jalen Ngonda Announces Doctrine of Love

If you ever come to our DJ sets, you’ll find that there’s a deep love of blues and soul, and there’s a new artist on the scene that I only recently caught onto: Jalen Ngonda. Today he’s announced his sophomore album, Doctrine of Love, and shared the title track from the LP. It’s a classic R&B vibe, working with these swinging melodies, letting his voice soar through the entirety of the track. His vocals are reminiscent of the stuff we heard from early Leon Bridges, but, like many of the traditional tunes, you can almost feel pain in his voice. Daptone will be dropping Doctrine of Love on May 31st.
