Jimmy Whispers Still Uses a Casio

jimHmmm.  Did Jimmy Whispers really bust out that old school Casio to serve as his background for his latest single?  Yeah, he did…and honestly, after my initial WTF moment, I’m definitely intrigued.  It’s his really his vocals that have won me over with his last few singles, so since those shine here, it’s still got me hooked.  I think some might be dissuaded by the song’s simplicity, but there’s something special in the oddity and audacity to just throw this track out.  Look for Summer In Pain, his new record, to hit stores on March 24th.

Cuz Pitchfork Said It Wuz Cool: ft. Joanna Gruesome and Jimmy Whispers

grewsumThis is a new feature for me. I’m currently just re-posting what P-Fork had to say. They’re huge; they get priority. So, if you read this already, skip ahead. Sorry for wasting your time, kind of. The first jam is from Joanna Gruesome…it’s a more rocking version of their previous hits.  It comes from their next LP, Peanut Butter, which has a release date on Slumberland/Fortuna Pop near the end of Spring.

The next jam is from Jimmy Whispers, who I wrote about a few weeks back, and he’s riding the coattails of P4K to the bank! He’s constructing these bedroom jams that definitely bare some DIY/home-studio perfections, but dammit if they’re not catchy as hell. You’ll find the tune on Summer in Pain, which hits stores on March 24th. And remember, this is all cuz Pitchfork said it wuz cool.

Jimmy Whispers is Intriguing

jimmyI’ve taken lately to listening to music that’s been highly distorted and a little bit odd, so it makes sense to me that Jimmy Whispers has caught my attention after releasing his newest single.  The song’s little more than vocals atop some samples that were born to sound like a carefully written pop song.  There’s something a bit off in the vocals, and that’s the endearing aspect to my ears.  Seeing as this is the title track to the album, Summer in Pain, I have a feeling that this might not be the most light-hearted effort; I’m totally okay with that too.  Look for it on March 24th via Moniker.
