Last Week’s Jams (5.22 – 5.26)

It was the last week of my school year, so I perhaps didn’t run as many tracks up the old flagpole as I otherwise might have liked, but we’ve still got a solid hour worth of hits below for those looking to peruse the jams. A new Life Strike tune kicks it off, dropping in some power-pop to your ears. We had some new stuff from both Sea Lemon and the Mary Onettes, all of which got me excited for the rest of the year to come. That new XDS is just out there enough for the weirdoes to come on home to roost with us. Happy Tuesday ya’ll!

Johanna Heilman Shares No Tomorrows Track

I was really blown back by Johanna Heilman‘s opening single from When We Were Electric, and now, there’s an equally haunting number popping up on the debut LP. There’s an openness in this track’s songwriting, which I think has definitely benefitted the single, leaving this great wide open space for Heilman. Her performance is so moving that I had to be sure that it was in your ears immediately; there are just some tunes that you feel deep in your soul, and this is surely one of them. When We Were Electric is shaping up to be a magnificent listen; it drops on June 30th.

Last Week’s Jams (5.1 – 5.5)

Last week started off with a smattering of great tunes, but I’ll admit to wearing out by week’s end…for some reason just felt like there wasn’t a whole lot out there tugging at me! We were really excited to share some great ATX stuff like the latest from Feeling Small and Johanna Heilman…with Alien Eyelid‘s great new single just a few hours away from our home base. Lots of acts we’ve been harping on had new singles, like Daisies, The Soft Walls; we also got a new single from one of our SXSW raves, Lifeguard. Oh, and we’re starting off with the Particles, as we’re over the moon they’re getting some reissue treatment from Chapter Music.

Johanna Heilman Announces When We Were Electric: Shares Title Track

Really getting lost in the moment these days, and when I hit play on Johanna Heilman‘s new single, it didn’t take long to get there. All of the guitar tones have this sort of lonesome dreaminess, like your watching your soul leave your body as the the notes trickle quietly through your speakers. Johanna’s voice has it’s own sparkle, feeling both fragile and seeping; it’s message about being weary of nostalgia tends to provide further depth as the notes seem to crest and fall at your feet. Another mesmerizing single from an Austin artist this week; look for When We Were Electric on June 30th.
