Usually, our last week’s jams covers all the stuff we covered, but it was missing this sweet Joyer tune that dropped midweek, and I keep coming back to it, particularly as I’m quite in love with their vocal work here. To be honest, the musical stuff is consistently good, falling right alongside all the purveyors of great guitar pop, but on my end, I keep circling back to the way the voice seems to rise, if only for a few notes, then settles back down, giving the track this cyclical nature of subtle hooks that, like me, lead you right back to pressing play all over again. Their album, On the Other End of the Line is out on October 24th via Julia’s War Recordings.

Joyer Announce On the Other End of the Line

You’re likely going to be hearing this song talked about a lot in the next few days, and that’s excellent news for Joyer. For us, that’s better news, as this new single comes with the announcement of their new LP, On the Other End of the Line. On my side, I’m totally in love with the vocals; I can’t put my finger on why I’m drawn to them exactly, but that tonal warmth has me completely wrapped up in my own feelings. I mean that first verse just drops in and floors me every damned time. They surround the breezy voice with these twanging guitars that sound right at home among us Texas folk…just another reason we’re fawning over here. The new LP will be out on October 24th via Julia’s War Recordings.

Bedridden Share Philadelphia Get Me Through Single

There’s new singles coming out left and right, and my disastrous ability to focus on one genre sees me skittering between pop and soft rock and, well, bold blasts of rock like the latest from Bedridden. Their newest single wastes no time grabbing the listener, using thunderous pounding drum work to match up with the wriggling bits of discordant guitar noise. While the vocal entry offers up a soft underbelly, the tune still drives forward with such power that there’s nothing to do but brace yourself for wave after wave of smashing rock n’ roll. I also am quite appreciative of the fact they’re not trying to cleverly disguise their sound, just coming out with guitars and drums ablaze. Moths Strapped to Each Other’s Backs will be out on April 11 via Julia’s War.

Swim Camp Share Two New Singles

In precisely ten days, Swim Camp will release Steel Country, and with that, there are two brand new singles to stream today that should catch your ear. For me, the songs really do carry the true identity of bedroom pop; they have such an emotional draw to them that you can’t help but put yourself laying on the floor of your best friends house as they shared their latest composition. But, what I love is the obscuring of the edges, building in added textural layers, or noise (as in the case of “Apple”) that really switch your expectations of what the genre entails. It’s like a musical anxiety blanket for the folks that continue to search for their spot in the world. Steel Country drops on February 24th via Julia’s War Recordings.
