Last Week’s Jams (9.15 – 9.19)
ATH got her groove back! Okay, maybe not entirely, but feel like we’ve gotten some solid coverage this week, bringing you some stuff that the other hit promoters might have missed. I wanted to start the playlist off this week with the new single from Massage, as that track made me rush out and count my quarters to grab a copy. RayRay reminded us that Shy Boys are still a force to be reckoned with, while B.Gray is out there encouraging those remaining tickets for Levitation to get picked up. Otherwise, we’re a little all over the place, stylistically, moving between the post-punk of Optic Sink and electronica of Sam Prekop to the quiet beauty of Greg Jamie; there’s a little something for everyone if you click play below!
What a week of fun tunes! I was really stoked with some of the stuff we were able to premiere on our end, such as new jams from Lola Tried and Giant Day, not to mention that incredible Morwan track all the way from Ukraine. I was happy to hear some new music from Mary Onettes, as they’ve long been one of my go to listens. Plus, there’s never a bad day for Stella Donnelly, dropping us a preview of her new album. There were some that covered more than us, and there were others that didn’t quite cover as much, but I’ll admit, feel like us only hitting 14 songs in a week was just scratching the surface of what came out last week. Still, we had Meritorio Records crushing the week’s end with new tunes from Strange Passage and the Wesleys. My personal favorite tune cranking out in under two minutes was that new jam from Teenage Tom Petties. Good to see the Apartments back too, so we ran the first single from their forthcoming LP, not to mention peeked back at the latest LP from The Fisheremen Three. It’s a quick run through this week, so make sure you crank it up and enjoy the ride!
Stella is getting her groove back, or at least I am. Managed to get my feet underneath me a little bit this past week, so we’ve got a pretty decent amount of tracks to represent. Threw out a couple of premieres for the homies at Feel It Records, with new No Peeling and Fan Club dropping this week. Turned around and dropped some Austin love for Skloss and Whisper too, which is always a goal. Really enjoyed my own introduction to the tragic story of Stroik, with a powerful tune you should put on your radar. Nice to see some favorites on the dial too like Sharp Pins and Frog. But man, this Happy Dust Gang tune in here is just my jam!
We have to own up to riding the struggle bus last week; I’ve been back at school, but the kids were finally in my classroom, so didn’t quite get to as much of the jams as I normally would. But, even as I adapted a new routine, found some real joy in the week’s music, though I know there was tons more out there. We got some solid Austin love with fresh Jane Leo and Rad Gnar, encompassing both sides of the Austin area scene. RayRay crushed it with a premiere for new Living Hour track, so be sure to swing by that jam. Fans of my indiepop coverage will want to be be sure you get your ears on new Tullycraft, Love Burns and Massage, all worthy of some extra listens. Sneak in and enjoy a little dose of new jams. It was a pretty busy week on my end, heading back into the school room and what not, but lots of great music making its way to our ears. Kicking it off with one of my favorite tracks of the year, with the latest single from Sorry, but then moves in to hear our friends I Was a King dabbling in the softer side of power-pop. Plus, the folks at Skep Wax and Slumberland keep pumping out the hits with new music from The Cords and Telephone Numbers. Really excited for you to hear the newest single from Austin’s Living Set too, if you missed it by accident; there’s another Austin act in there too named the Point, you might want to check if you’re into stretching your musical brain! It was a really strange week over on the music side of things; Tuesday blew up and we covered 10 brand new songs. But, then it’s like everything died and there were no new tunes. Alas, we managed to get into about 25 new jams, though one didn’t hit the DSPs, so we’ll have to have you play detective (or just go love Piggietails already). I got to meet some new bands this week, like Aussie’s Mana Pools, as well as My Generation, so be sure to keep an eye on both. Some diehard acts we love also came out with new tunes, such as Snooper‘s new album, Massage back in the fold and another Dancer hit from their forthcoming banger of an LP. Plus, the are is some ATX love from Nuclear Daisies and J’Cuuzi too! Get on it.
Felt like a pretty busy week all in all; there were lots of big album news leaking out, and we tried to cover the ones we love, like new Living Hour and Telephone Numbers…and I had to squeeze in that new Blood Orange. Tons of new stuff has been coming out of Austin too, like new stuff from Dress Warm, Living Pins, Chronophage and Ingebrigt Haker Flatten (do we still get to claim San Gabriel?). Winter and TAGABOW continued with their run of solid singles, as did Wombo, so there’s a whole lot of stuff for you to sound your way through below. Bummed that new Bats tune I posted isn’t up on the DSPs.
