There’s only a few more sleeps until all the music folks decided to hibernate for the year, so better be sure to listen to as much new music as possible, right? Well, on this Friday, we’ve got a couple of really delicious records for you to devour, if that’s your thing. Last Week’s Jams (10.2 – 10.6)

Kind of a hectic week on my end over here, with RayRay being out of town, B.Gray getting ready to fest, and well, the usual life goes on. Managed to squeeze in a couple of phenomenal shows, so that’s a bonus, catching both Lewsberg and the Walkmen. Tons of fun songs hit last week, though admittedly, it seemed a bit thin in comparison to weeks gone by. Still, Onyon dropped fresh tunes, and Lower Plenty finally dropped their marvelous new No Poets LP. Loved that English Teacher bop, so chose it to start off the playlist. Unfortunately, one of my favorite tunes was that new Lightheaded, but it wasn’t streaming yet, so be sure to check in with Slumberland Records on that note. Monday is here. So is the music.

Lightheaded Share Love is Overrated Single

New Lightheaded? Another chance to get to know the latest signing to Slumberland Records? Yes, please! I should have known from the first 20 seconds that this track would have me swooning, particularly as the set up is delightful, teasing you along with a thumping bass groove and a ringing bit of synths and guitar. When the vocals come in, they ride on a light backbone of keys. As the song slowly travels, the floor spreads, waiting to explode into this glorious moment of euphoric pop; the climactic moment is more than enough to keep you coming back again and again. This is one special song! Good Good Great is out on October 13th.

Last Week’s Jams (9.5 – 9.8)

Just because we took Monday off last week, it didn’t mean we were taking it easy; I think I posted 11 things in one day, simply because there’s been so much great jams to get turned onto. Austin had tons of representation with TVs Daniel, Motorsports, Friday Boys, DAIISTAR and Feeling Small, but my own love for Spanish-language pop was made all the better with tunes from Melenas and Mint Field coming our way. Teenage Tom Petties were back for the attack, with a new album announcement. Plus, there’s some reissue news with Kath Bloom and Single Bullet Theory getting coverage. So yeah, music! Whoohoo!

Lightheaded Announce New EP, Share Mercury Girl

It’s nice to see the heavyweights of great indie labels throwing their weight around behind some incredible music, and as usual, Slumberland have picked up another score by grabbing onto New Jersey’s Lightheaded. I have a feeling that folks will be drawn to the magical melody of Cynthia’s voice, taking on this mystery that vaguely reminds me of Mary Weiss. Musically, the song’s got some swirling guitars that would fit right along many of the acts in the label’s stable, though the group approach it with a bit more of an orchestral approach, scaffolding their pop sounds so they lift you to the heavens where pop dreams come true. Their new EP, Good Good Great, is out on October 13th! Also, if that’s a Prefab Sprout reference in the video (I say yes!), I’d like to challenge you to 7 degrees of Slumberland!
