Last Week’s Jams (8.18 – 8.22)
We have to own up to riding the struggle bus last week; I’ve been back at school, but the kids were finally in my classroom, so didn’t quite get to as much of the jams as I normally would. But, even as I adapted a new routine, found some real joy in the week’s music, though I know there was tons more out there. We got some solid Austin love with fresh Jane Leo and Rad Gnar, encompassing both sides of the Austin area scene. RayRay crushed it with a premiere for new Living Hour track, so be sure to swing by that jam. Fans of my indiepop coverage will want to be be sure you get your ears on new Tullycraft, Love Burns and Massage, all worthy of some extra listens. Sneak in and enjoy a little dose of new jams. And B.gray threw out some news on the ACL Night Shows, if that’s of interest, dig into the site!

I felt like I didn’t manage to crush it as much as I prefer, but in that, we still managed to get at least 20 rad tunes for you to digest, all of which you can hear in the spot below. RayRay got up the latest from Hotline TNT, and we hung with the masses in there, dropping jams from Winter, TAGABOW and the likes…but don’t you worry, we still dug into a little bit of the obscure. I was super stoked to hear that Wombo has a new LP for Fire Talk, and even more so to dig into a little more of the dub vibes from Pachyman. Plus, we premiered the “Clown Car” video from Lung, which you can read about
It started off a little slow and strange, but those keeping their eye on the prize knew we’d be in for a crazy end to the week, as there were releases dropping left and right. We skipped the album cycle to mostly focus on fresh singles, though we gave nods to records that came our way by the likes of Frog, Horsegirl, JJ Sweetheart and a few more. They’ve all got some great individual tracks in this great playlist, but we’re starting you off with Lowmoon‘s new jam, which is the perfect nostalgic bit of dream pop, which then moves right into Club 8‘s most recent banger. Some longer tunes rom Echo Delay, Cross Record and Consumables are within, but we tried to balance that out with some little joys. Also, don’t forget to check out Michael Maly’s review of the recent MJ Lenderman set at Emos!
For some reason, I felt like last week was kind of a slow-burn, but then when putting all the tracks we mentioned together, was stoked to see we had a solid amount for you to enjoy today. Personally, getting to celebrate new music from Feeling Figures and Being Dead feels like the world gets a win. But, there were also some great LP releases from the likes of Laughing and My Best Unbeaten Brother, amongst others. Totally excited to hear news of another endeavor from Mexico’s Mint Field, not to mention we got another sneak peek at what’s coming from the next Bad Moves LP, which of course has us stoked. Stream below!
It’s Friday, which is the standard for release day, so I wanted to give you some delicious treats for you to taste while you’re going through your day. There’s some great new full-lengths, a shout out I missed last week for Royal Headache and a few more obscure pieces you’re not going to find anywhere but here! So, jump below, stream what you love, skip what you don’t, and we’ll see you again next week.
