Vetiver Share Wanted Never Asked

Vetiver really know how to plan out the album release, setting up for their newest Up on High LP to drop November 1st, which is probably the day Fall kinda sorta begins here in Austin…meaning I can unabashedly get my mind ready for a mild winter with some folkier vibes. I like the softness to the voice on this one; it’s got that familiarity to it, with just the faintest hint of gruffness that makes we want to don my favorite flannel (but I won’t cuz it’s still in the 90s). There’s something in the craft of this batch of tunes that feels so simple and pure, like we’re celebrating in the traditions of American music (even though I’m pretty sure its imploding). Regardless, this is a gem. Enjoy it.

Still Digging Beautiful Dudes

Not too long ago, I was all over the first single from Beautiful Dudes new record, Radio. It just reminded me of simple no frills rock n’ roll; I mean that in the best sense. There’s no pretense in what the group offers on their second single either; the natural bravado and swagger seem to come from the internal melodies of the song itself; it’s a windows down, hair in the wind rock affair you’ll soon have stuck in your head. Plus, they flex some guitar solo muscle here too, giving a nice little layer of energy crashing on the listener’s head. Radio is out on November 8th from Mama Bird Recording Co.

Pop Rock from Beautiful Dudes

I know I know…the name Beautiful Dudes is a bit braggadocios…and possibly not even true depending on your standards of tastes…but the song people, the song. It’s this huge heavy pop rocker that definitely recalls a blend of punk attitude with arena rock pretense. The first few times I heard it I couldn’t help but think that these guys would have been the perfect backing band on Joey Ramone’s solo effort. It feels energetic, though not overly forceful as some loud rockers go; it revolves around the central harmony, circling and blasting through your ears in the best way. They’ll be releasing their sophomore effort, Radio, on Mama Bird Recording Co on November 8th.

Quiet Life Offer New Rocker

quietlifePortland’s Quiet Life have totally won me over today.  While the song started off a bit slow, the evolving rock aspect really took hold of me.  It sort of maintains a desert rock feel, rolling along with the drum beat.  It all culminates with a nice stomp near the end with an accompanying guitar solo; the tune pauses for some more melodic moments, then stomps right back off into the end.  If you like what you’re hearing from Quiet Life, then you can pick up their new LP, Wild Pack, on October 29th, courtesy of Mama Bird Recording Co.
