Last Week’s Jams (5.12 – 5.16)

If you just look at last week’s collection in our Album Streams post, you can see it was certainly a busy week out there; there were no fewer than six albums that I adored, whether it was new Gotobeds or High Water Marks or Artificial Go, there was plenty to browse through. But, that was just the albums, and didn’t even cover the great music that popped up on the single side of things. I mean, there was new Jeanines, Ryli, Lightheaded and Whitneys Playland...all of which should have you cranking up your speakers. Some good Austin (and adjacent love) for acts like Little Mazarn, San Gabriel, Gustave Ochoa and Adrian Quesada, so doing our part on the local scene. There’s just too much good stuff out there, thus, you’re required to press play and space out for an hour.

Stream Rose Skin LP from Mariin K

We shared several of the singles from Mariin K‘s newest LP over these past few months, and I just didn’t feel right moving forward without reminding you to check in on Rose Skin. There’s so much variety coursing through the entirety of the record that it’s difficult to imagine not finding at least a handful of the tunes to adore. Personally, I might start with “Beach” as it’s the most pop-centric, albeit in a noisy sort of manner. On the other hand “Easy” seems like a track that folks who love Angel Olsen would be into, but then you find outliers like “Chelsea” that haunt your soul as you go back through the record again and again. You’re going to absolutely love it, and you can grab a copy from Seksound today!

Last Week’s Jams (3.3 – 3.7)

Sure, we’ve had our eyes on SXSW as of late, but there were so many great songs coming out, we had to hustle to be sure we got to as many as possible. We covered new stuff from the Gotobeds and Reds, Pinks and Purples, plus we got to highlight longtime favorites like The High Water Marks and Exploding Flowers, just to name a few. We had some quick SXSW interviews with Cloth, Snacktime, Last Waltzon, Two Man Giant Squid and Saint Blonde, so all get a little feature loved today, along with the rest of the weekly bangers. Dive on into the collection below.

Mariin K Offers New Single

I’ve long been fans of the Estonian label, Seksound, and they’ve been fairly active recently, with a new tune from Pia Fraus…and now this delightful tune from Mariin K. Starting with this stuttered breakdown is a perfect way to set the song up, as it quickly moves beyond synthesized structure into a dreamier bit of heavenly pop. The softness in Mariin’s voice as she hits the chorus perfectly compliments the natural ebb and flow between the dreamier moments and the trip-hop grooves; it’s almost as if this was built for a huge anthemic arena-style singalong, or at least that’s how I’m picture it as I crank it up. Last Week’s Jams (8.26 – 8.30)

Sorry for taking Monday off, but even us little guys need a break from time to time. But, here we are to remind you of the great stuff we covered last week, with some absolute bangers you’ll have in your ear for the rest of the day/week/year. I absolutely love the Miners tune that kicks things off, with a quick jangling follow up from Young Scum right behind it. And to be honest, the Pop Filter tune had me in my feelings all weekend long, so be sure you stick to the end of that track. Some nods to new releases from Easy Sleeper, Mint Field, Stinako and Shady Cove also made it into our weekly suggestions. Oh, and as if all this wasn’t enough, you have to dip your toes in the new Dummy and Nothing Natural singles, doing the Cali subset proud.

Mariin K Shares Beach Single

If you’re not really up on your Estonia music scene, might we suggest checking out Seksound for the best in the Estonian scene; the label that brought you hits from Pia Fraus and more. Today, we’re really digging this new single from Mariin K, which blends huge fuzzy noise pop sounds akin to JAMC with these really tasty vocal morsels, little earworm treats that you’ll be gobbling right up. This is the perfect juxtaposition, as the track is coated in striking noise, though that central pop gravitational force similarly draws you right into the depths of this tune. Definitely a tune that can improve your day!
