Loving Share Medicine Single

Austin’s surprisingly feeling a bit wintry, and with that, my mind begins to drift to more restful days, lighter feels musically speaking, which is where this new Loving track found me. For me, there were two things that truly drew me into the depths of the tune: the velvety vocals and the light percussion. The percussion work is so light, and yet feels so prominent, it’s almost like fallen branches crackling beneath your feet as you wander down some snowy patch; the vocals add that wistfulness, carrying you on the wings of the wind, floating you along with the perfect melodic touch. This track appears on Any Light, out in February via Last Gang Records.

Don Trip does it again

Memphis-native Don Trip has been making a name for himself in underground hip-hop for a number of years, however his most notable contributions to the genre have come from his Step Brothers collaborations with fellow Tennessean Starlito. Don Trip had one noticeable blip on the radar back in 2011 but ultimately has not been able to get much attention beyond that. I would entirely attribute that to how brutally honest and baggage-filled his music has always been. Don Trip’s newest offering, God Speed, continues to match the criteria. It’s a great album from beginning to end, including the song “Medicine“, a somber and moving tale about getting caught being unfaithful. It may also be the most beautiful hip-hop song of 2015. God Speed can be picked up on iTunes or Google Play, and “Medicine” can be heard below.

New Music from Brad Laner

Brad Laner probably has his name thrown around with Medicine far too often.  While the old shoegase troupe had a decent following, Brad’s been busy working on other project ever since.  He’s readying a new 12″ where he’s accompanied by the Norwegian group Joensuu 1685, and the first listen we have is remarkable.  There’s a slight fuzz on the vocals, knifing guitar harmonies, and an element of darkness that he’s added to the cover of this classic Chicago track.  For those of us with a nostalgic pop leaning, this looks to be an effort that will cure all your ills. You can grab the 12″ now via Hometapes.
