New Music From Mountain Goats

ATH fave band The Mountain Goats posted new song “Tyler Lambert’s Grave” on their twitter page yesterday.  It’s been made very clear that the track will in fact not be appearing on upcoming album All Eternals Deck due out March 29th on Merge.  Mountain Goats leading man John Darnielle has said that the track is intended to preview the new direction of the band but didn’t quite fit in well with the other material.  Hope this tides over you fans until March.

New Music From Destroyer

News is spreading on the interwebs today of a new LP from Dan Bejar and his band known as Destroyer.  The new album, Kaputt, is set to be released on January 25th via Merge records.  Until that date, we’ve got new track “Chinatown” below to tide you over.  If this song is any indication to the new album’s sound, I think we’ll all be jamming this one long into 2011.

New Music From The Clientele

As far as British twee-pop goes, The Clientele have long been one of the best at what they do.  The Brits are continuing what they do best this summer and returning with a new mini-album of pop goodness entitled Minotaur.  The new short album from Merge will feature 8 new songs and hit stores on August 31st.  Below you’ll find new track from the band “Jerry”.

Free Merge Spring Sampler

It’s that time of year again for all of us to begin reflecting on the first third of our year in the music world.  Merge has of course released some stellar albums in these first 4 months of 2010 and they’re celebrating that with a free 14 track digital sampler.  Awesome songs from She & Him, Destroyer, Let’s Wrestle, and tons of others are including.  The Sampler is currently available for free download via Amazon.  This also gives me another excuse to post up one of my favorite songs of the year from Merge band Wye Oak.

Not far released from their stellar 2009 release Knots, Wye Oak are returning this year with new EP My Neighbor/My Creator.  Below you’ll find a download of, “I Hope You Die”, which is a new single from the upcoming EP.  It’s a powerful lil’ ballad that shows a bright future for this up and coming band.  You can get My Neighbor/My Creator in the Merge Records store digitally on April 20th and physically June 8th.  Enjoy.

New Music From Let’s Wrestle

lets_wrestle_web_1So I don’t know a whole lot about this British band Let’s Wrestle other than they just signed to Merge Records for their debut LP.  Outside of that, I know that the song we’ve got posted below “We are the Men You’ll Grow to Love Soon” has got to be one of the catchiest little diddies I’ve heard in a long time.  I dare you, hell I double dog dare you to get that tune out of your head.  Me likey.  You can get your hands on the band’s debut LP In The Court of the Wrestling Lets on March 23rd.

New Music From Shout Out Louds

shout-out-louds1Imagine my surprise today when I found this new track from Sweden pop group Shout Out Louds!  This band won me over a few years ago with their album Our Ill Wills and I have been a fan ever since.  The new LP from the Swedes, Work,  is due out Feb. 23rd on Merge.  First single “Walls” from the record is below.  2010 is shaping up to be one helluva year.

From The Closet: Spoon

spoon_gaWe all know and love Spoon here in Austin, and if you don’t, well you can just geeeet out!  Our From the Closet song “Everything Hits at Once” appears on the band’s 2001 breakthrough release Girls Can Tell. If you don’t own that album, take your ass to the record store and buy it before someone finds out.  This album is arguably the most important in Spoon’s career.  It’s their first in a long series of releases with Merge.  It’s the first time Mike McCarthy gets credit for producing.  In my mind, it’s the first record that really sounded like a Spoon record.  Damn I love this album.
