Dreamy Pop from Blushing

Austin’s Free Week is all about discovery, and I didn’t even have to leave the house to discover this great new dream pop band, Blushing. The group are about to release their Tether EP on January 13th, and I dig what I hear in these songs. You’ll hear the guitars shimmering in the best way, but perhaps what I love the most is how the songs have some length, which allows you to fully digest the sound from the band…no two minute tracks here! The longest track on the EP is titled “Mess,” and I’m putting it below to illustrate the power the aesthetic beauty they’ve captured on their EP. Go ahead, give it a listen.

New Liars Jam Coming Your Way

For as long as I can remember, I’ve admired the work of Liars. Their records never once sound the same, yet they always have some linear links to previous works. On their latest they continue to explore some of the more electronically influenced moments of their catalog, but it’s the hook during the chorus that really grabbed me. It’s built as a danceable moment that could really unite those in attendance at a show, though I’d be remiss if I didn’t wish they threw it down just a bit harder…perhaps that’s awaiting in the live set. You can grab their new record, Mess, on March 25th, then plan on including it in some year-end lists. They’ll also be appearing at Austin’s Psych Fest.
