Levitation Halloween Freakend Bonus Coverage (with Photos)

In recent years, the annual Levitation Festival has occupied Halloween weekend, doubling as both a music festival and a holiday celebration. With the event shifting to an earlier date and new location this year, organizers seized the chance to curate a two-day lineup billed as the Halloween Freakend. The lineuppresumably assembled with a spooky, ghoulish fright-fest in mindfeatured a collection of artists that felt fitting in either name or style for the holiday weekend: Machine Girl, Clown Core, Black Moth Super Rainbow, and The Black Lips for reasons that seem obvious.

Last Week’s Jams (2.10 – 2.14)

It started off a little slow and strange, but those keeping their eye on the prize knew we’d be in for a crazy end to the week, as there were releases dropping left and right. We skipped the album cycle to mostly focus on fresh singles, though we gave nods to records that came our way by the likes of Frog, Horsegirl, JJ Sweetheart and a few more. They’ve all got some great individual tracks in this great playlist, but we’re starting you off with Lowmoon‘s new jam, which is the perfect nostalgic bit of dream pop, which then moves right into Club 8‘s most recent banger. Some longer tunes rom Echo Delay, Cross Record and Consumables are within, but we tried to balance that out with some little joys. Also, don’t forget to check out Michael Maly’s review of the recent MJ Lenderman set at Emos!

IDLES Divide, Conquer and LOVE Austin’s Moody Ampitheater

We’re anti-Fascist, we’re anti-violence, we’re anti-racist and we’re pro-creative. -Joe Strummer (The Clash)

We all listen to music for a myriad of reasons but, for many of us, it is our source of connection to humanity. A connection that informs us that we are not alone in this world with our own experiences, thoughts, and emotions. Over 7 years and 5 studio albums, Bristols IDLES have found that connection with an audience that spans generations, race, creed, and sexual identity.Their sound explores the typical musical landscape of punk/post-punk/hardcore, brash, aggressive, and thunderous while delivering poignant, timeless messaging, political and personal, softening the edges with tongue-in-cheek humor and pushing the musical confines of a genre sometimes limiting in sound.

The Whiskey Priest Releases When You Were Stretched Out in Front of Me Video

Seth Woods has worked with a lot of incredible names from the Austin scene, like Chris Simpson (Mineral) and Emily Cross (Loma/Cross Record), but as of right now he’s working under his solo moniker, The Whiskey Priest. Today we bring you the first listen from the forthcoming LP Grief & Praise; it’s an expansive piece of balladry, shot by our good friend Michael Maly. Lyrically, the song seems to be a reflection on coming to terms with the present while looking back at what was once shared. With Woods voice, the song definitely pulls on the emotional elements of our nature, as it has this pseudo-gruffness that practically gives voice to a sense of longing. Listen carefully, as there’s huge arrangements that sweep through the song too, adding this textural depth that is undeniably powerful. Grief & Praise is out April 28th via Casita Records.
