More Far Out Tunes from Trans Upper Egypt

trannyLast week I brought you a jam from Trans Upper Egypt that I had been sitting on, so this week I’m staying on top of the world by bringing you this tune early.  Stick with the meandering at the beginning for a moment; wait for the drums to take the pace to a gallop.  The vocals loom large, yet distant, haunting the song as the tension is steadied by the rolling drum licks that slowly change.  This is one of those groups that I think is really doing the psychedelic thing right; it’s so strange, yet so right on at the same time.  Look out for the band’s self-titled album via Monfonus Press on November 4th.

Austin Spotlight: Another Ghetto Ghouls Jam

ggThe last month or so has seen a slew of excellent Ghetto Ghouls tracks come our way, and I’ll happily keep harping on about the Austin four-piece.  This track will be featured on the group’s self-titled album, being released by Monofonuss Press on April 8th.  It’s a quick jaunt, but a reminder of the pleasant abrasiveness offered up by the band.  There’s a sharpness to the musicianship, yet a rough quality that embodies the live aspect of the group.  Get yourself another taste of one of our cities great exports, and catch them at one of their 5 SXSW shows.

Austin Spotlight: Ghetto Ghouls Get Noisy

ghettoghoulsWhile there’s a certain amount of classic indie pop coursing through our veins in Austin, our city is also known for it’s grittier side; you don’t have to look far to find a band slanging straight up rock n’ roll with no pretense.  One of those acts who’ve been on the rise is Ghetto Ghouls; they’ve been around for awhile impressing the locals with their aggressive sets.  They’ve just signed on with Monofonuss Press to release their self-titled album in April, with a another 7″ coming out via 12XU at some point during the Spring.  Seems like these guys are only going to continue making waves in Austin, and hopefully beyond our city walls. Turn it up and take a listen.
