Monday nights can be such a drag, but Chess Club is giving you the perfect opportunity to get out of your house and enjoy a sweet little rock n’ roll show. Cincinnati outfit Artificial Go are blowing into town on the backs of their most excellent Musical Chairs LP (Feel It Records), and they’ve made several lists like the Stereogum Best of 2025…in case that sort of thing matters. Musically, they’ve got a bit of Raincoats, a bit of New Zealand and a bit of Dry Cleaning, but all spun in a truly unique fashion that has this dad willing to leave the house on a Monday night. Bonus points for all the great openers like Wet Dip, Variety, and Guiding Light…all acts we’ve covered on our end. Doors are at 8 PM – $15. See you there!

Not sure what is up with the water in Cinncinati, but the music scene there is ridiculously rich at the moment, and you can add Artificial Go to one of the hottest acts coming out of the city. Personally, I’m crossing my fingers for a Serfs/Artificial Go joint tour, but I digress. On their latest single, they take their sound and employ a little bit of what we’d expect from an Australian/New Zealand outfit…like a ringing Flying Nun nod, albeit one drenched in American alternatives, particularly in the bass work. The steady stomp matched up against those angular jangles hits all the right notes, giving us this little DIY shimmy I’ve had stuck in my head since yesterday. Musical Chairs is out on May 16th via Feel It Records.

We get a lot of emails, and I have a strange way of listening to the lot; I open 20+ tabs and just bounce back and forth between them to see what sticks in my brain…but then there was this Artificial Go track that just kept coming on and on again, and I couldn’t stop playing it. Going back to the email of the tune, it was talking about C86 and Sarah, but the more I played it, the more something felt very Raincoats-ish. It’s got that same sort of punk sentiment, using sharp guitar sounds to crank out melodies with a snappy little drum kicking right behind to maximize the hook. Then, soak up the vocals; they’re joyous and bouncy, except when they’re not, and they hit a sharper attitude, all throwing caution to the wind and bounding forward with exuberance. Their new record Musical Chairs will be out on May 16th via Feel It Records.
