Digging QTY and Their New Tune

I’m not always sold on duos; sometimes the sound just feels a little too hollow. But, in the case of New York’s QTY, they’re doing alright by me. They open up their latest tune with a pleasant little folk-ish vocal, reminiscent of Duchess and the Duke stylings. Then, the guitars get plugged in, pedals push and the band rock out for the chorus in emphatic style. They take the upped energy and jam out as the track draws to a close…and there’s nothing hollow in that end. Look for this track on the group’s new 7″, popping up on April 28th via Dirty Hit.

Dream Pop from Oko Tygra

The new label on the block, Grey Market, is releasing tons of tunes, and this one from Oko Tygra really caught my ear. There’s this great industrial feel to the track, as if the band recorded it in some industrial warehouse…there’s just a great darkness. But, while the mood is somber, there’s this great pop coming through in the seemingly angelic tones of the vocals. It doesn’t hurt that Jorge Elbrecht of Violens/Lansing Dreiden was behind the board for the recording, continuing the labels run of great hits. This song appears on the band’s Sealegs 7″, available now.

New Wolf Girl Tune

This tune hit my news feed courtesy of the hot site Gold Flake Paint and I just couldn’t help but posting it, especially considering it all comes via Odd Box Records. Wolf Girl will be releasing a brand new 7″ on the label this May, and those of you inspired by heavy riffs balanced with pop sensibility will be inclined to press play over and over again. There’s a light twinkle to the guitars in the midst of heavy distortion, all the while carrying a carefree attitude that embeds the song’s hooks deep in the caverns of your mind. Turn it up and have some fun!

Airy Pop from The Arctic Flow

Just when I thought I’d run a bunch of the same old same old you’ve already read about, I found this delightful tune from the Arctic Flow. They’ve got a brand new 7″ from Kingfisher Bluez, and it’s the subdued pop that I find enchanting. There’s a slight sparkle in the guitar progression, akin to many an indiepop gem, tied in with a warm vocal that calms your soul. I love how the tracks on this release are gentle and soothing; the pace of the songs here really allow for musical escapism. But, the release is super limited, so grab em’ while you can!

Brand New Peaness

Not sure how I let this rocker from Peaness slide under the radar, but just a few days ago the band tossed out this rad new single. I love how the song has this driving energy, though the riffs pull back just enough to keep the song from blasting away. In the chorus, you get a playful delivery that really, spun in a quick turn that almost comes off like a delightful pop rap. I almost wish these ladies would finish up an album already, but for now, enjoy a brand new 7 inch that comes out this Friday via Odd Box Records.

Body Type Release B-Side

bodytypeYou’re probably sitting around with a sense of melancholy, and with that, tunes often help heal, however superficial that is. This new single from Body Type is currently helping me here…there’s a vulnerability in the vocal performance accompanied by a brooding, yet beautiful, progression. As the song unfolds, you’re captured, either by the uplifting monosyllabic chants from behind, or by the general sense of calm that washes over you. The band release their new Ludlow/264 7″ via Our Golden Friend this month; you can grab it over HERE.

Feel the Tangible Excitement! IndiePop!

tangibleThis word doesn’t get thrown around so much in relation to Tangible Excitement, but my record collection is definitely calling these guys a supergroup: 1/4 Summer Cats, 1/4 Boyracer and 1/2 Lucksmiths. Need I say more? Indiepop fans are already clamoring to get their hands on this ridiculously fun release. I like the upbeat jam, “Puzzle Pieces;” it’s the best jangling pop tune you might not have heard yet…feel that groove. For those of you not familiar with the participating acts, just spend about 12 minutes indulging in the delightful pop waiting at the click of a button. Then, be a good human, and go grab the 7″ from Emotional Response!

Did Someone Say Peaness?

peanessThere are some really reliable record labels that probably don’t get the adoration or attention they deserve, but with labels like Kingfisher Bluez, I always go back to see what they’re working on. The label recently put up some great tunes on their bandcamp…one of which comes from Peaness. The label is releasing a 7″, and the tunes they’ve got up are catchy as anything you’ll likely hear today…it sort of reminds me of Standard Fare, using sharp guitar cuts and a great female frontiedvocal. You’ll be able to grab your own before the 7″ is released at the end of July.

ATX Spotlight: Sailor Poon 7″ Release (+Show)

sailorpoonHopefully you caught wind of Sailor Poon on the Slack Capital Compilation we released earlier this year, or at least heard about the ladies continuous stomping of the Austin scene. Today the ladies continue their pummeling blend of rock n’ roll with the release of their new Yeast Pigeon 7″…a show at the Museum of Human Achievement kicks off tonight to celebrate with Yes Ma’am Brass Band, Popper Burns and DJ King Khan. I love how these ladies seem to be having a blast, all the time, whether recorded or live; you want to be part of it, you need to be part of it. So join in the fun and listen to their new 7″ below.

Classic Pop from Red Sleeping Beauty

redsleepingAfter a long hiatus, Red Sleeping Beauty has picked things up over the last few years, culminating in the latest 7″ for Shelflife/Labrador. It’s just a careful wash of electronic joy, the sort that one millions of hearts on late 80s radio. Male and female vocals trade places over synthesized grooves, erupting in a soaring Spanish chorus laden with guitar working low in the mix. I suggest you go get your hands on this release before it’s too late to feel like you’ve fallen in love all over again; it’s available now!
