Another New Album from No Museums

Those of you with an inclination towards a classic indie rock sound should be sure to spend some time with this post, as nothing feels like the history of the sound more than what No Museums continue to offer. Whether you like a little bit of noise or a nice light strum, the Canadian outfit build all those pieces together, mashing all those little pieces into a unique collection of great albums. Lowways starts with a gem,”Index,” which is the perfect encapsulation of the aforementioned combination of sounds, though I’ve been quite keen on “It’s Snow, It’s Dark,” which oddly recall the Galaxie 500. If you have about thirty minutes, indulge me here, and just press play and get lost in the weaving of indie rock patterns you’ll find lurking below.

Stream Love in Mind from Mt. Misery

Once Home No Longer made huge waves among all the fans of the softened brand of indiepop; it had charms galore, offering up great guitar sounds and comfort. On Mt. Misery‘s follow-up LP, you’re going to get a continuance of their sound. “Hey” is a bold opening statement, kicking off with an emphatic vocal punch that reminded me of some of the early Lodger tunes; the chorus opens up with smooth backing vocals to warm you over. It’s the big focus on shining melodies and strong syllabic deliveries that fill the entirety of Love In Mind; I love tracks like “YBP” that encourage a little bit of playfulness in the overall construction, setting up some nice little treats for the listener. Just imagine yourself falling in love at the intersection of Teenage Fanclub and the Lucksmiths, and that’s right where they hit you. Stream the whole new LP below, courtesy of Prefect Records!

Stream New Album From Sam Blasucci

Like most Fridays, lots of great albums are dropping today, but I’d like to point your attention to the new one from L.A. based musician Sam Blasucci. Now I’ve previously shared his stunning tune “Witching Hour” so you should be familiar with the general sound. Expanding on that track, Blasucci has an expansive, fourteen track album highlighting his skill at creating alternative pop tunes. He flows between twangy alt-country, 60s lounge, and a wealth of other styles and genres. Check out Real Life Thing in full below and enjoy the adventure.

Of course if you’re feeling the album, consider a purchase. It comes through a joint release from Calico Discos and Innovative Leisure.

Maneater Share Wait Single

Ya’ll know I’m a diehard fan of DJ On and his Non La work; he released the excellent Like Before earlier this year. But, this is only partially about him, as he’s back with his pal Lindsay Stewart to work on their project Maneater. They’ve got a new record ready to roll, but “Wait” is our first sneak peek at what’s coming down the road. This tune fully embraces what I love about pop rock; it’s got thumping drums and a bright spirit that just makes you want to crank up your stereo and go for a zoom down a sunny highway stretch…that spirit, though tried often, rarely gets executed this well. Stewart and On are the perfect partners too, working in unison to build layer after layer of maximum hook power! You deserve a song that begs you to sing along. We’ll keep you updated on the album’s release date!

Gus Baldwin and the Sketch Prep the Sketch LP

Gus Baldwin and the Sketch are one of my favorite acts in the Austin scene. They have this sweat dripping tenacity that reminds me of an early Jay Reatard, rushing through songs as if possessed by some supernatural punk spirit. The song below’s been bouncing around for a minute, capturing, as best you can, the live energy of the group. This tune pops up with the news that they’re announcing The Sketch, their new album, dropping on January 17th, perhaps as the first best record out of Austin that year. Plus, a fun fact is you can play 7 Degrees of ATH Records with the band, but perhaps only I’m in on that story. I’ll save it for another day, while you crank the volume up!

Prism Shores Announce Out From Underneath

Meritorio Records have been one of the most consistent labels in my life the last few years; this year alone I’ve bought records from SadEyed Beatniks, Best Bets and am hoping to get that Jim Nothing record soon. But today, the label announced the signing and release of a new LP from Prism Shores. The Montreal act is new to me (shame on me, I know), and I was almost instantly hooked. There’s this lurking familiarity I haven’t quite placed yet, and perhaps you can hear it yourself, but it’s this steady pop bounce that feels like you’re a punk mixologist, fusing the Red Pinks and Purples softness with a little bit of a harder jangling sound. Sharp and comforting, I’ve had this tune on all morning long. Out From Underneath drops the day after my January 16th birthday in 2025, so if you want to get me a present, you know what to do.

Minorcan Preps Rock Alone + Shares Scorpio Sting

Yesterday was a sign of the times, as I got my first “Year in Review” pitch, meaning it is officially time for us to jump in our transporter and head into 2025. One of the records we’ll be looking out for is the new Minorcan record, Rock Alone, which features the tasty treat we’ve got streaming down below. Listening through the tune, the musical style falls somewhere between the work of Bruce Springsteen and Eels, offering up a left of the dial version of classic songwriting. It’s an apt time for the release here, as it’s a love song, disguised as an arachnid attack, with the love interest striking our narrator. If you’re looking for a little tasty morsel inside, might I suggest the little guitar shuffled at 1:43; it totally brightened my day over here. Rock Alone is out in February of next year my friends!

Magic User Announces Shadow on the Door

Some acts want to give you one singular vibe, and I totally respect that, love that even. But, as we all transition between playlists and mixes, a good record should toy with us, much like this new LP from Magic User will. I’ve listened to the LP, and it’s got rippers and janglers…and, like the one below, a little bit of ballad work. You can hear the way the guitars wriggle beneath the vocals how this track could erupt into a powerful piece of dreampop, though I’m grateful for the restraint, especially when there’s this instrumental moment that feels like water lapping at your toes on a sunny day. If you’re looking for an album that’ll mix the aforementioned vibes, then might we suggest grabbing Shadow on the Door; it drops December 14th via Dandy Boy Records.

Bleak Streak Share Dark + Drop S/T LP

Swedish outfit Bleak Streak weren’t on my radar until this track came our way, and now I’m devouring their new S/T LP. Every time I listen through the single we’re sharing below, it reminds me of a ramshackle version of Galaxie 500; the jangling pop dreaminess works throughout, though you’d likely feel as if the band over-indulged in caffeine, making some of the noisier parts pop a bit more instead of the warming to the melodic center. You’ll still find that there’s this cheerful sentiment that pervades the entirety of the tune, encouraging you to also dive into the band’s new record today!

The Chairman Dances Release Evening Song

The last month or so, we’ve made it a point to direct you towards the narrative pop stylings from Philly’s The Chairman Dances; they’ve officially released Evening Song, so we’d like to give you one last glimpse at the world you can open up by pressing play. The entirety of the new record circles around two romantic partners, and on “Faded & Fraying” you get to be there for a bit of their earliest interactions, with Chris visiting Maggie’s apartment. I loved this tune for its more traditional folk appeal, whilst still using great arrangement pieces to kind of allow the song to rise and fall in the storytelling; it’s a tactic that few can accomplish like The Chairman Dances.
